As far as trades go, I would have to say that Boilermakers, Pipefitters and Millwrights are the highest paying. Carpenters don't do so bad either since scaffolding is always needed... I usually supervise all these guys when they visit my company's power plants for outages, along with power plant mechanics and electricians (IBEW) on a daily basis. As a matter of fact, if your son can get into IBEW and get hired on as a helper at a power plant the pay is awesome. My top step Journeyman Mechanics and Electricians are making nearly 40 dollars an hour and we start helpers out at 26 dollars an hour. No degree required... and then if he decided to jump into management his salary would be in the low to mid 100's (125k to 150k)not including bonuses and stock options... again No degree required...(yes folks, this is the real reason why your electric bills are so high...)
