taking excelsior's psych of adulthood and aging this monday and i'm pretty nervous. i did a search on this and came up with some good feedback and tips on the test. one thread was from beckysharp on 9/12/06 and it gave a lot of the material covered. it mentions several questions on elderhostel... who is he?!
also, tertiary aging - what is that?
physical and social death - when and how used?
us population curve?
how long european americans live vs. african etc.?
african americans live the longest after living a certain age? i thought they had the lowest life expectancy?
went through all the ic material and did not come across this stuff.
can a/o enlighten me?

Elderhostel : What is Elderhostel This will give you insight on Elderhostel
TERTIARY AGING - rapid changes prior to death (eg. possibly some intellectual changes) this is covered in the IC guide.
Physical death is the death of the body, Social death is when old people stop functioning on a social level. This is covered in the IC guide.
US Population Curve- I knew this from studying for World Pop. Go to
http://www.prb.org/Content/NavigationMen...ok_Eng.pdf This handout will give you all you need to know for the A&A test.
As far as Europeans and African Americans-- African Americans do have the lowest life expectancy, but if they do get past that certain age, they outlive Europeans. I don't recall what that age is, but it's covered in the IC guide.
Know the IC guide inside out and you will do well on the test. It's all I used and I earned an "A". I'm not one of those freaks of nature with a photographic memory either. Hope this helps, Lee

Since I did these back to back, and they overlap so much, I may have seen some of them on the Gerontolgy cards. If you are planning to take both A&A and Gerontology, I would indeed recommend doing the both of the flash cards. If you're not, then don't bother. IC alone was enough to pass either by itself. If you're looking to ace it, then do them both. Hope that helps....Lee

I appreciate that feedback. I am planning on taking them both a week apart so I will definetely try to cover both. A good grade would be nice, too!
One more thing - (sorry!) - the info on Elderhostel is a link?

Yes, it's a link, and on the website, there is a plethora of information explaining what it is and stands for. Good luck on these two tests. IF you know the IC cards, they are quite doable. Lee

I always test my knowledge by using a book companion site. Here's the one
for Adulthood and Aging. You don't have to buy the book. Almost all publishers have a companion site. This one has a quiz for every chapter.
