Options are VERY limited in PI! I know the website says ride sharing is available, but in reality you will need to have a plan. I have seen multiple students arrive in PI without transportation. One of the airport workers drove one student to their hotel because they felt so sorry for them. You're better off flying into Portland or Boston, renting a car and driving to PI. Remember this is Commencement weekend so there will be extra people in PI. PI is a TINY town. You need to make realistic plans in advance.

If you finish all of your courses in Spring 2 then you'll have no problem. When Spring 1 begins ask your academic success coach what the deadline is to apply for graduation to walk in Commencement. Graduation refers to the conferring of the degree and Commencement is where you walk and participate in the graduation ceremony. Do your research on traveling to and around Presque Isle! It's a tiny town with no Uber or Lyft or rental cars.
Hi, I plan to.fly 9,000 miles to UMPI for the commencement. I just read your comment that no Uber, Lyft or rental car there. Do you have a suggestion how to get from the airport to Hampton Inn and to get around town? I really want to go to Presque Isle but the no transportation really holding me down, cause it's one hour walk from the airport to the hotel.
Thanks. Appreciate it.
Rent a car...I see multiple options with Avis and Budget

They have limited hours. It's Commencement weekend so lots of parents will be in town as well so renting a car may not be an option. Like I said, I've seen several people show up in PI for Commencement without planning for transportation in advance. Some thought they'd just rent a car but it was not open and others thought they would Uber but there were none.

I imagine booking ahead online would mitigate this. Their hours are kinda odd, but I'm sure one could work something out by calling them if it's not last-minute. You can book online like any standard budget/Avis and they give you options. Limited... but there are options.
He's got plenty of time to figure something out.

My concellor in UMPI don't recommend taxi, better rely on rental car she said. But no rental car at night in PI airport, so she suggests to rent from Bangor airport to PI, which very hard for me to do it as I am a foreigner. I still try to contact some taxi drivers based on Facebook page and a number from Hampton Inn, they said they are available but have to book again before May 10, 2025. Fingers crossed ? (?)
