Wisdom Teeth
#1
Has anyone recently had their wisdom teeth removed?

If so, how did the whole process go, the healing afterwards go and if their were any problems.

I just had mine taken out and it's now the third day and still feeling some soreness and light pain. I don't know how many days I am suppose to keep gaauze in my mouth since everytime I take the gaauze out I have some blood on their, not a lot but a little.

Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else can offer advice or has had the same problems as me.

Thanks alot

It's loads of fun. I had mine out a few years ago. They came in very late.

I used tea bags instead of guaze. Regular tea.

The gauze made me gag. I moistened the tea bag then just kinda stuck it in there. Try not to chew through the bag. That makes a big mess. I have no idea if tea is a coagulant (sp?) or if it promotes healing. It worked, and it tasted better then the gauze.

Hi, I had mine out at 17 and it was a total mess. If by the 3rd day you are only having minor discomfort you are way ahead of where I was. The reason you are still seeing blood is because the wound is healing over the gauze and every time you remove the gauze you are in effect removing the scab. Assuming the stitching is good and the gauze is just spotty (as opposed to soaked) you *should* be ok to remove it.
Asprin thins your blood. There are alternative classes of analgesics that won't have this negative effect.

Make sure to do what the DDS said. Keep your mouth CLEAN. You don't want to get an infection or dry socket.

I was initially excited to have the opportunity to eat pudding for a week. That crap lasted about 2 days. I craved a cheeseburger.

You can also google this topic or go to yahoo answers and use the "answer search" feature. If I can be of further help don't hesitate to ask. Take care.

I had mine out 3 weeks ago. I only had the upper two taken out, and the Dr. said that those were the easiest to have pulled. I was in and out in 30 min. I had to keep gauze in my mouth for a day or two. He gave me Vicodin for the pain, which I needed for maybe 4 days. I couldn't eat any real food for about a week due to the tenderness, but that was it.

I remember when the Navy decided to pull Wisdom Teeth back in bootcamp. What a disaster. Usually, the DDS only pulls about 3-4 teeth, but in my suituation, I had 5 removed! You seen that right, 5! They decided to go for oral surgery (a wise choice) and removed all of them at once. Took a few hours. I was SIQ (Sick in quarters) for 2 days. I couldn't eat anything hard for a week. I always had the PBJ sandwiches (they get old real fast!). In Power School (C school), a buddy of mine had his pulled out. They did it on a Friday and was in good shape by Monday. Minor bleeding and the whole gauze ordeal really stunk for him but I tried to help out as much as I could. I think you are in good shape and I hope you feel better soon.

Had mine pulled 5 years ago. The actual process was quite cool. I had them knock me out via injection and it seemed like I was out for hours. In reality, it was only 10 minutes and all four teeth were out.

The pain wasn't bad at all but the surgeon still gave me vicadin.

Here's the important part....... DO NOT rinse your mouth vigorously for the first 24 hours. You WILL get a dry socket. I ended up with one and the pain was far worse than the actual extractions.

I had mine out at 17 with the tea bags as well, instead of gauze. I think it oozed for a bit less than a week. This is No joke, recently my friend blended a chesseburger and shake TOGETHER and drank that about day 4 ish (ugh) when hers were removed. (In the homeopathic circles, they say we have them removed way too much. It is kind of like guaranteeing the Dentist's college fund for their kids- pull a few wisdom teeth pay a tuition.)- Big Grin

Eck, I had mine out in 2004 and it was a total wreck. I was on oatmeal and mashed potatoes for almost 2 weeks. And you know how they warn you about that 1 in 18,000 chance that a portion of your tongue may be left numb permanently? Yeah, that's me. I hope you come through it better than I did!
