Will this plan get me into UMPI and then Law School?
#1
Your Location: Pennsylvania
Your Age: 35
What kind of degree do you want?: BABA Management & Leadership
Current Regional Accredited Credits: None

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:
Sophia Credits: 19 (started on 4/10, planning on getting at least 60 here and moving to UMPI)

US History 1 87% (could have score higher but did not take it seriously as it was my first course. Eventually started being serious and got full marks on the Touchstone)
Intro To Nutrition 98%
Intro to Ethics 80% (this was Klingon to me)
Macroeconomics 92%
Dev Effective Teams 100%
Visual Communications 92%
Health, wellness and fitness 98%

Currently 50+% into Intro to Business and Environmental Science with a 95%+ score in both.

Any certifications or military experience? I have a RE Broker's License in PA.

Budget: Can pay as needed.

Study Budget: Can study as much as I please as kids are self sufficient (preteens) and in extracurriculars).

I am a business owner and due to the nature of my work I am in court a lot, mainly LT court. I've decided to go to law school to show my kids that even though I have an ok job wit h no degree, you should always strive to do better in life. I've been reading the forums and it seems like I need at least 60 credits in an actual college to receive a good enough GPA to boost my chances of getting into Law School. I plan on doing all the Study.com classes found here at UMPI instead as I do not want to pay 250 per month and be only relegated to doing only 5 exams a month. https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Category:UMPI

I do not want to go to an Ivy or even T20 school for Law School and honestly University of Florida is my first choice (ranked 28th). I chose this school because I'm moving 31 miles from Gainsville in 2025.

I am a single father with sole custody, fidget a lot and work irregular hours so I have UMPI as my choice for undergrad.  I'm currently being mentored by a district court judge, have 3 letters of recommendation from 3 attornies who are pushing me to go and 2 friends that are attorneys who claim to have jobs lined up for me if I pass the bar.

In addition to the 19 credits I currently have, which of these courses make sense to do at Sophia and then transfer to UMPI?

Biology and Lab (4 credits)
Spanish (3 credits)
History 2 (3 credits)
College Algebra (3 credits)
intro to Business (3 credits)
Environmental Science (3 credits)
US Government (3 credits)
English 1 and 2 (6 credits)
Intro To Stats (3 credits)
Critical thinking (3 credits)
Financial and Managerial Accounting (6 credits)
Business Comms, Ethics and Law (9 credits)
Principle of Finance and Management (6 credits)
Intro to Sociology (3 credits)
Public Speaking (3 credits)
Workplace Communication (3 credits)

I'd love to get some feedback on this as I am not very versed in the college acceptance pathway in this country as I never went to school in the US.

@khp2011, Welcome to the board, where did you get your previous education before you arrived here in the US? Basically, with the little info you have on Sophia.org, it's not a real indication of what will happen in the next little while until you get the UMPI degree. If you've got a high GPA, high LSAT score, a comprehensive and competitive or rounded application, your chances are higher. Your main goal is to get a higher score for the GPA at UMPI for 60+ credits, you can also strive for a higher grade at Sophia.org, but those most likely would be omitted in scoring.

I appreciate the response. You've confirmed for me that I do need to work harder at Sophia and do at least 60 credits at UMPI.
I finished high school in the Caribbean at the highest ranked high school in my country (we rank schools there based on student performance) and received a GED in the US. I did receive a full scholarship to a US university but due to family issues was not able to attend. When I finally arrived in the US my best option was to get my GED and enter into the job market.

I was able to find a spreadsheet here that basically answered my questions and put me on a path to my degree. https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UM...egree_Plan
As for Sophia, after the history and ethics debacle, I've consistently scored higher than 90% in the rest of my courses. I am also slowing down a bit to fully study and take this more seriously as my initial thought was that Sophia was a "cheat sheet" to get college credits and now am of the mind that the courses there have actual real world applications and are not just a tool to get into college cheaper or faster.

I do think due to my life, circumstances, experience and eventual grades getting into law school would difficult but not impossible. I really appreciate this forum because I was going to pay someone $500 for what was given here for free. You guys are amazing.

On the contrary, you seem to be a very motivated and conscientious student. I would be very surprised if you were not successful in your quest to become a lawyer.

Hey, I got your PM, I wouldn't know without any extra info telling me what you need... Please let us know what you have remaining in your academic evaluation. It should show you in yellow highlights, once we know what you have left, we can inform you the best course of action.

So here is my academic evaluation. I was under the assumption that micro and macroeconomics would have transferred as 4 credits instead of the full 6, and Sophia Bio and lab would be 3. This would enable me to do 60 graded credits at UMPI but my credits transferred as 65 total. It seems insane that I would actually be arguing for less credits but here I am. Can anyone review this and let me know if I'm wrong?

There's no attachment or a picture, nor a link. It's relatively simple, it doesn't matter how many you transfer in, as long as you get 60+ RA graded credits from UMPI, all the other classes transferred can be placed into your 'other field'. Don't look at the numbers of classes you currently have completed, look at a spreadsheet of what is required/remaining, and what you can take to override previous credits. I tell people to do that for Excelsior, TESU, UMPI all the time, you can override your English Comp I from Sophia.org by taking Comp I at UMPI for example, it doesn't matter which class it is, you 'override' those pass/fail classes with the ones that generate a possible favorable graded GPA instead. Voila!

You're right. I need to stop stressing over it and just focus on the classes. I did attach a document but I'm not sure what happened. I'm going to get back to reading for Business 469 and forget about it.
