Why doesn't the college board offer online CLEP testing?
#1
Now that Straighterline has gone online with ProctorU, why can't one do CLEP and DSST tests online? This would be a big benefit to those of us who work 9-5.
I would probably take a ton of CLEP tests just for the fun of it if I could do so without having to schedule an appointment at the testing center.
The same goes for TECEP and ECE exams.

Better yet why not a private business offer the service of providing CLEP/DSST that are proctored online....you wanna call them or should I? Smile

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Obviously these need to be proctored. I'm not sure how Straighterline's new system works but obviously integrity is key so there needs to be proctoring. Now, I would kind of like to see PearsonVUE start doing CLEP and DSST.

ProctorU does proctoring so you just need to have the CLEP test available online and ProctorU can make sure that the student completes the test without cheating. If ProctorU is good enough for SL and TESC courses then it should be good enough for the College Board.

DSST is already delivered via the internet -- this is why you have a username and password for your account. The key is the proctors must be trained and authorized by DSST -- they also have to log in which is why you are not able to actually launch any real exams at home. Still, a nice benefit is your ability to review your test scores, etc.

CLEP will be moving to internet-based exams starting this fall (creating your own account, registering to take your exam and paying for your exam, selecting your score recipient, etc.). Still, the same situation exists where the trained and authorized proctor must log in or you will not be able to launch the exam.

PearsonVue will never be used by DSST as long as that testing program is under the Prometric umbrella as they are direct competitors. If anything, maybe the Prometric test centers would eventually deliver the DSST exams.

ProctorU and online proctoring are still kind of new concepts and I think it would take the College Board and Prometric awhile to find a way to adjust to the new trend.
