Which is better: InstantCert - or - REA?
#11
The answer to this age old question is, as always, it depends... I've use IC exclusively for numerous exams. Most recently Business Ethics and Society. Studied and took the exam in a week. On the other hand Biology I found the REA stuff to fill my brain up a little better. All things considered, for me, instantcert is the better of the two because there have been many exams that I've taken that I've not used REA but there have been no exams that I've taken that I've not used IC (assuming that there were flashcards for the course of course...) IF we include the forums then IC is a hands down winner!

Shoto is definately a mod because of his love for IC not vice versa. I'm the extremely slllloooowwww turtle that's watched far too many people come and go. I started this crazy journey to quickly get my degree four years ago. This forum has helped many finish and has given me the motivation to keep going.

If only IC had Business Law II flashcards...

Most REAs I have used are the ones where there was no IC. Financial Accounting being the lone exception. The REAs for A & I Lit, Natural Science (by Callihan) and Financial Accounting are quite good. I pressed my luck with Accounting using REA almost exclusively and preparing for only 3 weeks IIRC.

I began my testing using IC extensively in connection with other resources, and ended preferring the other resources, but used IC too because I was paying for it to get the feedback forum! If you want a resource you can use by itself -- which I don't recommend IMHO unless you already know the subject and need primarily a refresher -- I would go with REA unless the specific book has negative feedback here.

Quote:I have been using REA but it seems to take forever. Is InstantCert better??

Time is money. Using IC almost exclusively, I never spent more than 2 weeks on any one subject and passed a dozen or more exams.

Using the analogy of travel...your question is akin to asking a dozen people for directions to get from point A to point B. IC is like a Super Highway, other methods are like walking or riding a bicycle. It all depends on how much time you have to spend and the value of that time if used in other ways.

If you work full time, own a business, have a family etc...then the value of your time will be different than that of an unemployed twenty something living in mom and dads basement.

I use REA guides (whenever available) for the bulk of my study...and I use IC to squeeze in study time while at my desk at work or to use while I take lunch. I wouldn't recommend one without recommending the other! Each study guide you'll see mentioned on these boards has its place and value, and it can vary greatly from subject to subject.

Hands down IC.....

I have never seen a REA book, have only used Peterson on 3 exams (just to see how much I know about the topic), no books either.

IC, the Forum feedback and Goggle.

I have only used Instant Cert and the Official CLEP study guide for practice tests, and I have not failed a test yet.
