Which English Course Is Better: English 01B or 01C.? :)
#1
Which is better accepted by the big three? I need one more English Comp class. Even if I didn’t, it makes in for filling in somewhere with the writing portion of a degree. GE, electives, major, credits toward the 120, etc.

I have The English 09 - Intro to College Writing, and English 01A – English Composition down. My local college doesn’t do the 101, 102, 202, thing like the other CC’s in our District. Everything is letter for some reason with the higher letter having no order at times. So I have two options. I'm thinking it doesnt matter which one as either one covers the second college composition requirement. The only three options in the English 01 family. After that’s it’s all creative/poetry/theater writing in the English area of classes.

English 01B: Literature: Critical Thinking and Composition (4 Credits)
Develops critical thinking and writing skills in close textual analysis of
issues and themes in fiction, poetry, and drama as well as in non-fictional
literature and literary criticism. Reviews deductive and inductive reasoning,
recognition and avoidance of logical fallacies, and relationships between
language and meaning while emphasizing detailed critical analysis.
Students cannot complete both ENGL M01B and ENGL M01B-Honors courses
because credit will only be awarded to the first course completed. Applies
to Associate Degree. Bachelor Transfer credit: CSU; UC

English 01C: Critical Thinking and Composition (3 Credits)
Develops advanced skills in critical thinking, reading, and writing. Focuses
primarily on the analysis and evaluation of non-fiction works to develop
logical reasoning as well as analytical and argumentative writing skills.
Students cannot complete both ENGL M01C and ENGL M01C-Honors courses
because credit will only be awarded for the first course completed. Applies
to Associate Degree. Bachelor Transfer credit: CSU; UC

Whichever course best hones your skills in MLA or APA citation requirements would give you the best practice that you will use later for your Capstone/Cornerstone course. Personally, I think the 01C non-fiction option would be the more generic and broadly useful choice in future research assignments.

Both will be accepted with no problem, but IMO, 01B is "better". Both are academic writing, but the ideas involved in writing about literature (fiction or non-fiction) have the potential to be more abstract than writing about facts. If you hate (or don't have time for) reading, 01C is probably better, but I think 01B would otherwise be more enjoyable.

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking. I’m a reading/writing fanatic. I can read any good novel or poet. I’m a right brainer (arts/ literature not so much math and science.) For some reason I thought a course in something to do with "literature" was required on the University level. I have registered for 01C which I’m in the waiting list for since class is full. Fully online course at our local CC. If I don’t get into that then I’ll automatically fallback into 01B which is open and I also registered for as the backup option to 01C. Our college allows 5 wait spots but usually they’re all picked up. 01C only because I have other classes and it’s one less hour a week work load. Our college(s) doesn’t allow CLEPing out of English, Arts, or literature based classes. I’m a writing fanatic so might as well just take it and save the CLEP for the other classes I rather not take. Thank you.
