Which CLEPs are applicable for a degree at TESC
#1
Hi all,

I am a little confused as to which CLEPs I can take that will apply. I will be going for a BSAST in IT. I was wondering if I could take all three science CLEPS. It would be nice to be able to take all three, since that would add up to 18 credits. Also, I have already taken Int. Algebra, College Algebra, Intro to Stats, and Trig from ALEKS (I also took PreCalc, but it is a duplicate). I want to know if I can take Calculus and have it apply. Even Business stats perhaps by Saylor. Does anyone have any info on this? Thanks much!

Oh, one more thing. Is there a way to figure out which CLEPs don't duplicate DSSTs so I make sure I won't take a test that won't get me credit?

Google and Yahoo are awesome tools!

People on this forum are very helpful and generous of their time, but they really appreciate it when you put in a bit of effort to find most of the info yourself first. This way, they can fill in the gaps and not spend so much of their time Google-ing.

Take a look at the above, the TESC links have a menu on the left hand side that has additional info. If you still need help, feel free to ask.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

The links provided, of course. Here is another to the plan of study for that degree Thomas Edison State College: Technical Studies

Courses you take within a subject like Math, which exceed the requirements of the degree (college algebra/3, stats/3, and 3 from math "higher than college Algebra, in this case) will likely fall into "free electives....this degree only has room for 15 free electives. Science is governed in similar fashion.
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Thank you all for the info and advice. I have looked at the TESC site fairly extensively, and I believe that I understood much of what was included in those links. Maybe I wasn't clear with my question. I had read that CLEP Biology and CLEP Natural Science are often not compatible (many universities accept only one or the other), and I know that TESC accepts both of them, but I didn't know if they accepted them together, or if they would only accept one or the other. I hope that makes sense. Since CLEP Natural Science contains a lot of biology, they would go together if I took them both near the same time, but I didn't want to spend that time and money before I knew that they would both be accepted. I always try to Google my questions before asking them here, but was having trouble finding the exact answer to my question. Thomas Edison was of no help, because I am not currently enrolled, since I am currently under the age requirement, and do not yet have 30 credits. I appreciate everyone's generosity!

rebel100, thank you. That made sense. I guess they will just be applied as free electives, most of which will be filled with math and science credits.

The course codes are listed at the links we gave you. In most cases, if the codes don't match, then the courses don't duplicate. They used have a warning on their website that Intro to Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice would not be accepted even though they are coded differently, but they removed Intro to LE from their chart altogether. Currently, the only tests/courses I can think of that duplicate without having the same course code are the ones on business ethics (and substance abuse courses, but there's only one known alternative source for that). The Natural Science and Biology CLEPs do not duplicate.
