What to do now...?
#1
So I'm currently taking SOS-110, and I have my 114 evaluated at TESU for a BALS SS. I'll definitely go about getting an associates in business as well as I'll only need a few courses. But what if I want a BSBA as well? I'll only need another 10 courses when I do a "what if" evaluation. ....But then there's the other capstone, which I wouldn't be looking forward to. I remember people saying you need an extra 24 new credits for the second degree, but can I take them now or do I have to wait until after I've got my current one complete?
Y'see, I really just wanted to get the "check the box" degree, and get it before anyone possibly makes some crazy changes to where this roadmap to a degree wasn't feasible  anymore. Now that I've got all the credits on my transcript, I'm kind of reevaluating (not that there's anything wrong with the BALS). Because I've found through this journey that I like doing courses. In what I do for a living, there is no roadmap whatsoever and you're on your own. You don't get to see clear progress. Whereas with courses all you have to do is put in the effort to complete them. You just follow the path. I like that. I just figure I might be one of those people that just keeps taking more courses, at ASU for example, if they get cheap again, so is there something higher I should be shooting for....or just on to a masters.

I don't really know what I'm asking here other than about the 24 credit question....Just seeing if anyone has anything to say.

Oh yeah, how much cheaper is doing the 16 credits at TESU compared to the waiver with the SDC discount?....if anyone knows.

24 credits is a lot to complete a second bachelor's degree. What will you do with that degree? Will it help you in your current job? Are you looking for a new job and would it help you there? Are you considering grad school? Many grad programs are 30-36 credits. Depending on what your plans are and what field you're in, a second bachelor's degree may not be beneficial and a master's degree may do more for you career wise. What do you do for a career? Maybe others can help give you some help based on your career.

Well, I haven't been employed for about 5 years, I've just traded my own account full time since then. If I were to have a career I'd be starting from scratch, as I'm not going to be going back to the kind of thing I was doing before. I just got the degree as a hedge against anything bad happening with what I'm currently doing, so if I needed to go get a job I'd at least have something. I also thought it would be fun to teach ESL online for a couple hours a day, as what I do gets kinda lonely. Those are really the only reasons I STARTED doing this, but I've found I enjoy it.

So, I don't really have any careers I'd want to do in mind. I'd like to do some financial accounting courses to get REALLY good at reading financial statements and being able to notice subtle screwballery, but I'd do that in my own country.
In regards to master's programs, is it the case that you would basically just need ANY degree plus the prerequisite courses to any given program?....I haven't dove this deep yet.

Of course it depends on the graduate major; but if you wanted to go for something like an MBA or even Data Science there are plenty of options no matter what your undergraduate degree is in.  Many MBAs do have business related prerequisites if you don't have a business degree, so you may want to add them as part of your undergrad degree. Statistics and economics are common - of course each school has its own, or even none other than having work experience (in any business).  Maybe you'd be interested in a Master in Finance - again many options there too.  Personally, I believe it makes sense to focus on a path for a master degree than having multiple bachelor degrees.

For a completely new degree, you'd need 24 new credits. But I think if you earn them both at the same time there doesn't necessarily have to be so many new credits? I'm not sure.

Since you're into Business, I would use the BALS as the check in the box degree and also shoot for a BSBA General Management.  If you're getting two degrees at the same time, the 24 new credits don't really apply as you can "re-use" 9 credits from one degree to the other, and if you're taking a BALS, you have 27 free electives and 20 general education courses which you can essentially use for some or most of the BSBA courses needed.

Here's a post I did a couple of days ago, you're also a perfect candidate to get the BALS and then work on the BSBA using either Davar or Study.com as your UL options.  Since you're into Accounting, InstantCertCredit has an UL course, you can use that in addition to Davar and Study.com accounting courses and also support this board by doing so - see my previous posts here:  https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid321129

Could you send a PDF or a screen capture of your BALS and also BSBA academic evaluation so we can determine the best route to get you done with a BSBA General Management?  Furthermore, are you just going to take the courses for 16 credits or are you going to pay the residency waiver fee?  I forget, I PM you before, do you have tuition assistance/reimbursement? BTW great job getting so much done so quickly, you're on the East coast of Canada right?

Thanks for the replies, everybody.

BJ - I have the SDC affiliate discount thankfully, so I'd be paying the waiver. That is unless it would be cheaper with the two capstones and cornerstone (9 credits) to just do the other 6 credits at TESU. I don't have a job so I don't have any kind of tuition assistance/reimbursement. I'm in Ontario.
Thanks for the offer to look over what courses I should take. I kinda enjoy just figuring that stuff out, it's basically half the fun of doing this. I'd rather save asking for any help if I'm stumped, since basically all the information is on this forum (a lot of your posts)....thanks a lot for your help and all your posts on here, you've been a big part of my getting this done and saving money.

If you took capstones, 2 cornerstones, and 7 further credits of easy credits at TESU in one term, you'd only pay $4639 with no residency waiver if you do flat-rate tuition and NOT the affiliate discount. It's the same cost as paying tuition waiver + 1 TESU class. Can you do 16 credits at once? That's up to you. Some people have.

Oh, you have to do all 16 in a single term for no waiver fee?.....lol, I thought it was all 16 in a year or something....no, I'm not really into that. As well, I'm already doing the cornerstone now.
As you can see I know enough about all this to get what I needed done, but I have some big holes in my knowledge.

I'm guessing you meant 2 capstones, cornerstone and 7 extra credits...what would be that extra 1 credit that would count? I thought TECEPS don't count for the waiver?

You could split it and do 9 + 9 for a total of 2 terms but the point is that you need to have 16 credits to waive the residency fee. And, at that point, it would cost more than the waiver anyway.

2 terms = $4639 x 2 = $9278 for 18 credits.

9 credits in one term = $4649 + $3125 waiver = $7714
