I noticed WGU's course, Business of IT - Project Management, is for Project+ cert.  According to the transfer pathway agreement with sophia, PM1001 (SOPH-0013) satisfies this course.  Does this mean I will not need to get the Project+ cert to complete this class since I did the course on sophia?

When you do Sophia's courses, you don't get the cert. This is much quicker and easier.

You can always get the Google Project Management cert if you want it later on.

It's almost certainly not the only one, but it's the most obvious one. Most of the other courses where WGU pays for the cert do also have equivalencies that can be transferred in, but they may be RA courses or other certs.

Another thing to note is that sometimes people take the Sophia course, but they also want to take Project+. In that case, you can ask to have the Sophia PM course transfer removed from your transcript so you can take that course at WGU instead.

Correct, I transferred in the Sophia Project Management course and did not have to complete WGU's course which involves the Project+ cert. Ironically I still got the cert later because they had a beta test for $50.

I also transferred in an ASU EA course(CIS 105) that satisfied Business of IT - Applications so I didn't need the ITIL cert.

It really depends on the student, follow the WIKI, if it says either/or, it'll work if you take one or the other, or even both for the learning and knowledge gaps... I've taken classes from multiple providers before as I wanted to get more learning or review/retain information and to fill some knowledge gaps, even though it may have been repetitive for some of those classes. I like to recommend the balanced mix of the trifecta, certs, degree, experience, a good match of the three. That depends on what's meant by "optional." If you enroll in the program without having met the transfer requirements for this course, it's not optional at all and you have to earn the cert in order to pass the class.

Truly "optional" IT certs at WGU are those where after you pass the course (usually via OA), you still have the option of requesting a cert exam voucher. One example is the Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) from ISC2 in the cybersecurity program.

If what you mean by "optional" is that you can skip it via Sophia or SDC, then yeah I don't think any of the other ones in the BSIT program are like that.
