Western Civ I and II CLEPs together?
#1
Western Civ I and II are the next CLEPs on my list. In order to keep my time off requests at work to a minimum, I was hoping to do them both in one morning or afternoon. Has anyone successfully knocked out both Western Civs at the same time? Any issues with studying so much material and retaining enough to pass both tests at the same time?

I'm a history major and a serious history buff. But the Middle Ages are my specialty; when it comes to other eras, I know more than the average bear, but I'm no expert. The Mesopotamia-Egypt-Greece-Rome thing is especially dim to me; I'm better from the fall of Rome forward.

Western Civ I is pretty cake, but you really need to know about Ancient Greece, Mesopotamia, and Rome. I'm pretty sure you could do fine without knowing too much, but I would look at the exam feedback portion of both to make sure you're covered. Very doable, but I haven't taken the Western Civ II yet. No need for it and really, no time either. Good Luck!

I have them both scheduled for this saturday morning back to back. I will be happy to post feedback when I am done. I will be taking 10 tests over a 6 days span.

Wish me luck! Smile

I've taken Civ II, but not Civ I so I can't speak on that one. As for Civ II, it's not that bad. If you enjoy the subject and are a fan of the history channel, you should be fine. Brush up via the Exam Specific forum and let us know how you do.

Best of luck!

I decided to play it safe and take one test at a time. (My bosses will just have to be inconvenienced; good practice for when I get my degree and quit!) I'm well into the studying now and am feeling close to ready for Western Civ I.

I'm using mainly the InstantCert cards and the REA book. I've found REA books to be the best ones for me so far and right on target with the material, but this is my first time using IC. It's unsettling to me that the IC cards go into much more detail but are much lighter on context than REA. Based on my experience with CLEPs thus far, that's the wrong approach. I'm thinking IC is a good supplement to Western Civ study (and it's a really handy, sneaky way to study when I have downtime at work), but it would be a mistake to rely on IC alone.

I took Civ I last night and it really wasn't that bad. Scored a 67. Brush up on your Roman history, as well as the Greek city states. Those two subjects alone were about 75% of the test. Very little questions on art and architecture. The Exam Specific thread nails this test, so if you've looked at those then you should do great.

Best of luck!
