I'm typing a document in Microscoft Word and having a problem with something- I don't recall this problem before, maybe someone can help?
I'm creating a running header, which I can do. But whenever I try to insert page numbers in the upper right, it overwrites my header!?! I can put page numbers on the bottom no problem- but need them on the top for APA style. There MUST be a way to create running headers and page numbers in the same document on every page, what am I missing here?
THIS:

I found this annoying as well. Just put the page number in first & then do the rest of the header or footer.

I currently use Word for Mac 2011 for papers, and this may not map exactly, but this is a thought:
What I do is create a header, enter the running head and surname using tabs to position them properly, and then I'll have my text insertion cursor at the far right of the header. At this point I'll go to the menu Insert: Page Number. I'm not just coming in from anywhere and commanding Word to insert page numbers on the top right, I'm telling it to insert the page number at my text insertion point, which just happens to be at the top right.
I can imagine that there might be a difference between these two conditions, and that this just might help? *fingers crossed!*

Jennifer, try the instructions
at this link. I have a MLA formatted document with the page number in the upper right corner as you want, but it's been so long I've forgotten how I did it.
I hope this is helpful!
