WGU - BA NOS - IT core
#1
Hi all,

I will be taking BANOS with IT Core. Here is a list of the courses I have left after finishing my generals on Sophia. For these remaining courses are there any Sophia courses that could be substituted? Also, would you recommend taking some courses at WGU over online sources? I'd like to get all the hard ones out of the way and breeze through WGU material.

Thanks

C463 Intermediate Algebra
C464 Introduction to Communication
C768 Technical Communication
C683 Natural Science Lab
C168 Critical Thinking and Logic
C483 Principles of Management
C484 Organizational Behavior
C268 Spreadsheets
C182 Introduction to IT  - google IT professional satisfies this I believe.
C393 IT Foundations
C394 IT Applications
C779 Web Development Foundations
C172 Network and Security – Foundations
C173 Scripting and Programming – Foundations
C175 Data Management – Foundations
C846 Business of IT- Applications

Critical Thinking: Take at WGU. Algebra: either Algebra at Sophia. Web Development Foundations: Intro to Web Development at Sophia.

Check https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Category:WGU and cross reference with https://partners.wgu.edu/ to see what else might work where. We don't have a plan for that exact degree, but some of those courses overlap with other degrees.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

I'm not finding any BA degree for NOS, only the BS: https://partners.wgu.edu/Pages/BSNOS.aspx which doesn't reference all the courses in your list. If it actually is the BSNOS, then this is what you need: https://partners.wgu.edu/Pages/Single.as...062&pid=82

Do you have a link for the BA degree?

Agree with Rachel.

Do at Sophia:

- do any algebra
- communication at work
- you can try principles of management. It's new so not on the transfer partner page yet but probably will be
- web development

Other suggestions:

- Definitely do critical thinking at WGU(though you could try your hand at saylor's test for this for $5).
- natural science lab at WGU is generally recommended
- most likely do spreadsheets at WGU(though I don't know an alt source for this anyway)
- C393 & C394 are the comptia A+, so you have to take it one way or another
- business of IT applications is the ITIL cert so you most likely have to do this
- some of those remaining courses can be done at study.com as well if you wish
- Sophia's database course is generally not recommended unless you already know databases and just want to use the course to "test out" or want to use external resources to learn databases

Essentially, I would recommend completing everything that can be transferred with Sophia.org/Study.com, if you have more courses that want to transfer in, see StraighterLine, or even Saylor.org, as both of these have a few as well. You can transfer in a bulk amount of 75% maximum before you enroll, once you enroll you will not be permitted to send anything else. Create a spreadsheet of all the courses required and cross reference them with these four providers, up to 90 credits max.

You should get your CCNA first before starting WGU as that 1 cert could take 2 months to do.
The AWS sys ops and AWS Cloud Practitioner you could also do ahead of time.

Certs are free to do at WGU though if you are paying out of pocket and trying to finish ASAP, then it would make sense to try and transfer in the max 90 credits.

C393 IT Foundations - CompTIA A+ cert
C394 IT Applications - CompTIA A+ cert

A better (cheaper) option for this:
1) Sign up at WGU Academy and do the CompTIA A+ certs there - it's $150/mo, and you could get both done. This is also a good way to see if WGU will be a decent fit.
2) Study for but don't take the CCNA, AWS SysOps, and AWS Cloud Practitioner certs - then take them for free through WGU

Thank you everyone! I am just seeing all your messages. Some very valuable info to go over. Let me look at it all and see if I have more questions.
Yes, BSNOS degree to the person who asked. I made a mistake there. Also, appreciate the steps in which to take certs/courses. Very helpful. Thank you all so much! Let me get back to you!

Thanks for your response. I have done College Algebra, and Statistics through Sophia. I didn't know what to do for the C463 course.
This is the link I was looking at:
https://partners.wgu.edu/TransferGuideli...curity.pdf
The very first course is the Intermediate Algebra. Is that the pre Algebra or pre Statistics at Sophia?

That transfer guide you linked is from 2018. Please use the
Partner.wgu.edu links that have been shared with you by every single person that responded to you. Yes if you did algebra through Sophia then you have satisfied the algebra requirement.
