If your CLEP center also allows for DSST exams, you could take Technical Writing there and get it out of the way quickly.  DSST also has Ethics in Technology, & Statistics.

Hey, are DSST exams generally preferred by folks here over things like Sophia and SDC? Just trying to figure out the best use of my time and money.

Some people prefer exams, some prefer courses; just depends.

I used to live further from a testing center, so I took multiple exams in a single day (2 CLEP and 2 DSST's).  After that, it wasn't worth the hassle (long-ish drive, paying for parking, walking across a large campus, babysitting for my kids, etc.).  But I still preferred it to courses, as it was certainly fast - 12cr in 2.5 hours of testing was very nice.

After that, I took TECEP exams before I took courses - I needed them anyway, and they were cheaper than most courses (back in 2014/2015).

I saved courses for the end, and it worked.  I could do them when my family was asleep at night.

Many people will prefer courses, especially if you're not a great test-taker, or the material is not something you're familiar with.
