Veterans: GI Bill Reimbursement for CLEP tests?
#1
Has anyone actually requested reimbursement from the GI Bill for CLEP or DSST exams? Can someone walk me through the process or explain how it works?

Thanks!

I found this link posted on this forum several months ago.

This is a VA website that says the VA reimburses the test expenses (GRE, CLEP, DANTES, ECE, etc.) when the test taker submits a copy of their scores.

National Testing Program Q & A - (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs)
AS in 2010 and BS in 2013 at Excelsior College - Transcripts and Costs
MS Biostatistics in 2019 at Texas A&M University - Graduate School

Sharing Credit-by-Exam*
Resources Used - 20+ Exams Passed & General GRE
Practice Tests - Available for CLEP and DSST

If I take the tests at the base education office, I don't pay. Its easier than having to get reimbursed if you have the option.

Jnshaffer, this is info for my sister, who is a veteran. She can't take them on base for free anymore because she's out of active duty now.

NAP, thanks for the information!

Are there any Veterans who have submitted the reimbursement form received a check? If so, how long did it take to process? I sent mine in May 2009 and still have not received anything.

I am also prior military and asked my school VA rep about getting reimbursed for the test. This was his answer...When you physically take the test, the computer will ask, before the exam begins, whether or not you are requesting VA reimbursement. If you answer yes, the system will generate a receipt. You then fill out the form online and send it into the VA office with your receipt. The only downfall to getting reimbursed for a test is that the VA will deduct time from your over all benefit whether you are using the GI Bill or the Post 9/11 GI Bill. I elected not to get reimbursed since I will need all 36 months of my entitlement to get my degree.

I went ao education office brief about this a week or so ago. I found out that the old GI bill (Montgomery) will only use part of the 1st months benefits (IE you get $80 less the first month.) The 9/11 GI bill will use a whole month's worth of benefits, even if it's only $1.
