Free Coding bootcamps for veterans: VET TEC program through the VA
#1
Pilot program just started which allows a veteran to go through an approved IT/coding program for free and get BAH without using up your GI Bill.

https://www.benefits.va.gov/GIBILL/fgib/...eteran.asp

At the moment the approved schools are somewhat limited but I've noticed that they are still adding schools and programs since it's so new:

OOOO, so it doesn't use up the G.I.Bill at all and you get BAH. That's crazy. I've been trying to find something like this for awhile. Thanks.

Haha, there's only one online program, interesting... it's pretty cheap if you get an award, it'll only cost $3 grand for a coding boot camp that provides the basics to the most common coding languages. The program fee is $13 grand, but an award is provided at $10 grand and in each cohort up to 10 people can get that award.

They have other awards too, several that provides the entire scholarship. This is a pretty good program from the looks of things. It's awesome for VETS if you can get in. They have an onsite option as well, I skimmed through all the awards info and scholarship on their homepage/webpage - pretty interesting stuff - https://www.codeplatoon.org/

OOOO! I got approved for the online one. Everything is free and you get one-half of approved BAH. If my plan to get into the MCIT online program fails, I guess I will pursue this.

Nice! I got my COE from the VA and my initial application and assessment for the Colorado school went well. I have an Zoom interview with them tomorrow to see if I get in.

I wonder if I can apply now and choose to cancel later if I get accepted into a master's degree program. If I don't, I could continue pursuing the coding boot camp.

I don't see why not. But you'd have to look at the specific policy I guess.

I just got accepted into the Colorado school. Looks like I will be escaping the AZ heat this summer!  Cool

Nice, I still have to make the Youtube video to apply for mine. I finished the coding challenges already.

Do you think it is possible to use both VET TEC and the GI Bill? USe VET TEC to collect the BAH in another state and use the GI Bill for a part-time graduate program?
