Various Credit Source accepted at all Big 3?
#1
I know that there are many sources of credit, SL, Saylor, Shmoop, Davar, etc...are there any of the Big 3 that DO NOT accept any of those sources specifically, or will they all work interchangeably? I am only about a month into the journey and have been planning arbitrarily from all sources...this question has never crossed my mind until today!

Thanks!

Most sources of credit discussed on this forum are ACE or NCCRS, CLEP, DSST, UExcel/TECEP/CSU-Global CBE. The Big 3 take those types.

OK, I understand I think.... the "company" that provides the credit may provide different "types" of credit. That is what I will take into consideration from here on out. I think I might have glanced at a post that suggested SL may not work well with COSC (or something like that) and I panicked that I might have not been paying close attention. Thank you.

Yeah, Davar is NCCRS.

ALEKS, StraighterLine, Study.com, and Shmoop are ACE although not every course is ACE.

Saylor has some ACE and some NCCRS.

The Big 3 don't care about the company or organization. All they care about is whether or not the credits come from a regionally accredited school (there are some exceptions for national accreditation) or are ACE or NCCRS-approved for college credit.

Thank you!

BTW, I have the same thought about seeing that someone doesn't accept NCCRS....something I glanced at on the way to looking for another topic, so I didn't take the time to write it down. Now whenever I see NCCRS I have a doubt if I should consider it. Is there a problem with everyone accepting those credits? It was probably not one of the Big 3 they were talking about if I had to guess.

FEMA courses can only be used at COSC - TESU and EC no longer accept them because they are not ACE or NCCRS recommended.

Also, I think that EC does not accept the CLEP/DSST for English Comp.  You have to take it through SL, as a TECEP, or as a UExcel.  Since they will take it from SL, I think they will also accept it from another provider as a course (like Ed4Credit or Study.com).

Other than that, nothing mentioned here is not accepted at any of the Big 3.

One thing to keep in mind though - the degrees and schools are not interchangeable.  Meaning just because a certain course will "fit" into a degree plan at one school doesn't mean it will fit at the other 2.  So you really do need a plan for a degree that will get you the courses you need for that particular degree at that particular school.  If you are not sure what degree you want, or not sure of which school you want to go to, then you would need to plan all of the possible degree paths out, and then take courses that will fit into all of them.

Not the best plan, BTW - I think you need to sit down and carefully plan out what degree you want, or you're wasting your time and money.

Yeah, it must have been a different school that didn't take NCCRS.

TESU only accepts FEMA courses that are ACE-approved, but all of the ACE-approved FEMA courses are butt-in-seat. The FEMA courses TESU will not accept are the IS (independent study) courses offered by EMI because those aren't ACE-approved. Excelsior never accepted FEMA IS courses directly. They have always, and still do, accept FEMA credits off of another school's transcript.

Excelsior accepts FEMA IS thru FCC and CCC. I have some of both.

COSC accepts FEMA IS direct. Best deal!

TESU does not accept FEMA IS direct nor from FCC or CCC. TESU even rejected a 6 credit EM CWE course from CCC and every EM course from them (2/3 not IS courses). After 3 emails and two phone calls I gave up.

All three accept FEMA ACE.
