Masters in Computer Science / IT not sure what to do
#1
So,

I hadn't really expected this, but I will graduate from TESU after I pay the residency fee. I have not quite figured out how I'm going to pay for it, but oh well.

The bigger problem is, the jobs and internships that I was going to apply for now require a master's degree in computer science. For an internship? A master's degree in computer science?

I already have a master's degree. I went back for a second bachelor's degree to skill up. In retrospect, I should have just done the master's in computer science, but I wanted to get a degree through testing out. I would still recommend that for most people needing a degree in whatever having done it myself.

So, I am thinking about doing the masters in IT at WGU, but I'm wondering if there's something cheaper, or with better accreditation. I would also like to take a break because I get very busy between May and December. I knows breaks are frowned upon at WGU.

So, I'm looking for some suggestions. Mainly, are there regionally accredited degrees cheaper than WGU that the forum recommends? If I go the WGU route, I would like to get certs early. Not sure what the best way to do that is.

WGU is regionally accredited. Make sure an IT degree will meet your goal because some employers might specifically want a degree in computer science or engineering. WGU doesn't have a master's degree in IT; they have a master's degree in IT management, so it's not a technical degree.

WGU has two technical MS degrees:
https://partners.wgu.edu/Pages/MSDA.aspx
https://partners.wgu.edu/Pages/MSCSIA.aspx

They both allow specific certifications to be transferred for credit, so there's a certain amount of testing out that can still be done. Also, it's not that many courses, so a lot of people finish in one six-month term while working full-time. And you can find information about the assignments and start working on them before you enroll.

Some people have completed the MSCSIA extremely quickly:

What kinda jobs are you looking at? I'm really curious.

a BS in CS with a portfolio of some work to show employers what you can do should suffice for an interview in most cases.

Unless you're looking at FAANG, but would FAANG even consider something from TESU (?)

For a Masters, I would skip the Big 3 and go for a competency based provider such as the institution mentioned, WGU. You can go for a slightly more expensive option, PUG Exceltrack is another option if you have tuition assistance or reimbursement. I think you need log in information to view the pages. The data analytics program doesn't have certifications. You can earn microcredentials along the way.

These pages don't require login. You can also view the guidebooks for information about the actual degree program:

That's correct. While a limited list of certifications can be transferred for credit, they're not included in the degree.

Maybe it's because I'm on mobile, but every time I click on something for details, it asks for me to sign in. I can't tell which certifications they accept for the data analytics program.

Must be a mobile thing, I just clicked on all 4 links and didn't get asked for login details.
