Semester/Term: This June-,July 2023 (summer?)
Instructor: Courtney Boma.
Long or Short?: Long.
Number of Outcomes: 10 (if not mistaken)
Adaptive Outcomes?: Yes.
Number of Milestone Activities: 6.
Type of Milestone Activities: explain some Math problem.
Type of Final Assessment: Quiz in 3 hours.
Notes & Overall Thoughts: easier than Sophia's Introduction to Statistic (althou not related, should be compared to Study.com instead) could be quicker if you take tutoring, the exam was the same as the adaptive just different value.

How many days does it take?
If are you limited by waiting on each milestone to be graded 1 by 1?
If I could spend 8 hours a day on the course, could I finish in 2-3 days?

Are you asking about MAT140 or BUS150?

It depends on whether you need to learn anything new. If it's all review, then you can complete everything in less than a day. Professor Boma responded relatively quickly to milestones, but like other UMPI professors, she didn't affirm all of my milestones at the same time, which is a bit frustrating. Be warned that with the move to Brightspace next session, the course content may change, and the exam final is expected to be replaced with a written assignment, which could be significantly more work. For comparison, MAT 101 has a 15-page research and analysis paper that you need to write from the perspective of a professional business analyst.

Asking about taking MAT 140 at UMPI.

With the move to Brightspace beginning with the Fall 1 session, many courses are going to change. It's too late to add anymore courses for this session. It will be interesting to see what changes. Exams are expected to go away. So any class that currently has an exam most likely will not going forward. The course content will change for many classes as they were developed and owned by Strut especially the business courses.

Semester/Term: Summer 2 2023

Long or Short?: Short
Number of Outcomes: 3
Adaptive Outcomes?: No (No Quizzes)
Number of Milestone Activities:
Type of Milestone Activities: Submit a rough rough draft of one of the items for your final
Type of Final Assessment: 4 Item Final
-Select a Topic
-Excel Sheet using data related to your topic , perform specific functions/edits/ activities in Excel
-Brochure in MS Word about your topic , use specific functions/features in Word
-MS PowePoint Presentation about your topic, use specific functions/features in Word
Notes & Overall Thoughts: If you have lots of experience with MS Office, this class is a breeze.

Name: BUS101 Introduction to Business
Subject: Business
Semester/Term: Summer 2 2023
Instructor: Humphrey
Long or Short?: Medium
Number of Outcomes: 6
Adaptive Outcomes?: Yes
Number of Milestone Activities: 6
Type of Milestone Activities: Short response, no word count or formatting requirements. Some of mine were like 200 words and the Prof. Affirmed them.
Type of Final Assessment: 97 Question MC Exam
Notes & Overall Thoughts: Use the adaptives to study . When you miss a question , it tells you what the correct answer is and why, so I would recommend intentionally missing some so you can focus on what to study for the final . The final is almost 100% the same questions as the adaptives.  6 Outcomes , but some of the outcomes are really brief so I called this class medium.

Name: BUS400 Project MGMT Applications I

Adaptive Outcomes?: N/A No Outcomes
Number of Milestone Activities: 0
Type of Milestone Activities: N/A
Type of Final Assessment:
So , this class is not in Strut (i.e. YourPace) , its a kinda mini/faux capstone you just do with Prof. Dorsey over email.

You basically use the principles learned in BUS141 and other classes to put together a project plan with something from real life you’ve done. If you have a FT job , this should be relatively easy as you can just use something from work.

You complete the Project plan just as you did in BUS141, but instead of being an imaginary project, you of course use your real life scenario. It doesn’t have to be work related , it can be like putting on a kid’s birthday party, building a garden shed , moving houses. It just has to be "of size" you cant do brushing your teeth or making a cup of coffee . Mine was a training workbook I made for my job. You also have to have actually done it so you will need evidence of some sort. Photos, documents, or a like letter signed by your supervisor/manager that you did XYZ can be your evidence.

Notes & Overall Thoughts: This was the fastest class in my opinion because no reading, milestones , quizzes. I did mine in less than a day, Dorsey is just a busy woman so it took a week for her to grade.DONT OVERTHINK IT . The word count for each "section" varied from like 20 words to 800 words in my project plan.

Name: BUS200 - Intermediate Business Computing
Subject: Business
Semester/Term: Summer Term 2 2023
Instructor: Roxanne Bruce
Long or Short?: Short
Number of Outcomes: 3
Adaptive Outcomes?: No
Number of Milestone Activities: 3
Type of Milestone Activities: Projects – attach a short preview of your final assessment for feedback
Type of Final Assessment: Four projects – a brochure created in Word, a bibliography in Word, an Excel spreadsheet with formulas and graphs, and a PowerPoint that uses a number of features that you'll never actually use in the business world
Notes & Overall Thoughts: If you know the Microsoft Office suite fairly well, you can glide through this. Skip over the content and jump right to the assessment while you wait for your milestones to be graded. Get to work on building your projects and, with enough prior MS Office knowledge, you could have this course done in just a few hours.

Name: BUS240 - Change Management
Subject: Business
Semester/Term: Summer Term 2 2023
Instructor: Carl Michaud
Long or Short?: Short
Number of Outcomes: 3
Adaptive Outcomes?: No
Number of Milestone Activities: 3
Type of Milestone Activities: Short responses, no word count minimum
Type of Final Assessment: Two essays:
  • A five- to seven-page APA paper with recommendations for a change management plan directed to company leadership for adopting a code of ethics.
  • A one-to two-page reflective paper drawing from personal experiences to explain and justify three of the recommendations made in your APA paper.
Notes & Overall Thoughts:
Carl is a great professor. He grades milestones promptly and provides thoughtful feedback. This was one of the classes that I enjoyed more at UMPI.

Name: BUS244 - Management Information Systems
Subject: Business
Semester/Term: Summer Term 2 2023
Instructor: Javid Siddiqui
Long or Short?: Medium/Long
Number of Outcomes: 4
Adaptive Outcomes?: Yes (8 of them)
Number of Milestone Activities: 6
Type of Milestone Activities: Projects – attach a short preview of your final assessment for feedback
Type of Final Assessment: 100 question multiple choice exam
Notes & Overall Thoughts: As noted by others here, a lot of this course feels dated. The professor acknowledges your milestones with a short 1-2 sentence commentary on what you wrote and then provides a much deeper expansion on the topic that I have to imagine is copy+pasted material. It's good information that he provides that is rooted in career experience. Overall, I didn't love this course, but it was probably due to the subject matter and the adaptive quizzes.

Name:
 BUS260 - Leadership
Subject: Business
Semester/Term: Summer Term 2 2023
Instructor: Brian Richards
Long or Short?: Medium
Number of Outcomes: 4
Adaptive Outcomes?: No
Number of Milestone Activities: 3
Type of Milestone Activities: Short responses, no word count minimum
Type of Final Assessment: Five- to six-page personal leadership philosophy paper (APA)
Notes & Overall Thoughts:
I actually enjoyed this course. The content is a little lengthy, but I found it interesting. Leadership is something that most people don't study or reflect on, yet so many people exercise in different areas in life. I appreciated having to stop and reflect on it. Professor Richards is solid and gives good, custom feedback on each milestone.

Name:
 BUS325 - Financial Management
Subject: Business
Semester/Term: Summer Term 2 2023
Instructor: Cody Humphrey
Long or Short?: Long
Number of Outcomes: 6
Adaptive Outcomes?: Yes (18 of them)
Number of Milestone Activities: 6
Type of Milestone Activities: Short responses, no word count minimum that ask you to apply the concepts in case study-style short responses
Type of Final Assessment: 60 question multiple choice exam
Notes & Overall Thoughts:
This is the most miserable course in the BABA MLS program. It's so incredibly long and the adaptives (and the quantity of them) make it even more frustrating. You will need a significant amount of time to make it through this course. Cody takes quite awhile to approve milestones and doesn't typically offer much feedback.

Name:
BUS353 - Legal & Ethical Environment in Business
Subject: Business
Semester/Term: Summer Term 2 2023
Instructor: Carl Michaud
Long or Short?: Short/Medium
Number of Outcomes: 3
Adaptive Outcomes?: No
Number of Milestone Activities: 3
Type of Milestone Activities: Short responses, no word count minimum
Type of Final Assessment: An 8- to 10-page Ethics/Social Responsibility case study paper.
Notes & Overall Thoughts:
Another course that I enjoyed more than I thought I would. Professor Michaud provides brief, but helpful, feedback. And he is not nitpicky on the grading, which is nice.

Name: BUS415 - Operations Management
Subject: Business
Semester/Term: Summer Term 2 2023
Instructor: Carolyn Dorsey
Long or Short?: Medium
Number of Outcomes: 3
Adaptive Outcomes?: No
Number of Milestone Activities: None
Type of Milestone Activities: None
Type of Final Assessment: seven- to 15-minute PowerPoint presentation (case study) with voiceover
Notes & Overall Thoughts:
This is one of the more unique setups for a UMPI course because it doesn't have any milestones. I would highly recommend that you download and review the case study final assessment first. Then, as you go through the course materials, make note of what you will leverage/use for your presentation. My other piece of advice is to not overthink the course. I was spending too much time on my assessment, and eventually just submitted it as a draft, thinking it would get torn apart. Professor Dorsey had very light feedback, and I submitted it soon after for an A.

Name: BUS440 - Business Analytics
Subject: Business
Semester/Term: Summer Term 2 2023
Instructor: Noah Winslow
Long or Short?: Medium
Number of Outcomes: 3
Adaptive Outcomes?: Yes (8 of them)
Number of Milestone Activities: 2
Type of Milestone Activities: Short responses, no word count minimum
Type of Final Assessment: 63 question multiple choice exam
Notes & Overall Thoughts:
This course is more about a range of business strategies than it is about business analytics. It covers a number of interesting concepts and models. Professor Winslow can get a little nitpicky on the milestone responses.

Name: BUS469 - Strategic Professional Communication
Subject: Business
Semester/Term: Summer Term 2 2023
Instructor: Jenifer Lynds
Long or Short?: Medium
Number of Outcomes: 6
Adaptive Outcomes?: No
Number of Milestone Activities: 3
Type of Milestone Activities: Short responses, no word count minimum
Type of Final Assessment: Interpersonal communication handbook with 9 key parts/sections
Notes & Overall Thoughts:
Jennifer Lynds is one of the best professors at UMPI. She was the only one to reach out to students during the semester to provide insight and encouragement. She's a real treasure. The milestones are set up in a way that they help you to start thinking about your final project. The project directions are very detail oriented and very helpful. Similar to BUS415, I recommend reviewing and thinking through your final project before going through the course content and then writing it as you go based on what you learn. There is quite a bit of content, but a lot of it is common sense, and you can breeze through it.

Name: BUS489 - Business Strategy and Policy
Subject: Business
Semester/Term: Summer Term 2 2023
Instructor: Noah Winslow
Long or Short?: Short
Number of Outcomes: 4
Adaptive Outcomes?: No
Number of Milestone Activities: 2
Type of Milestone Activities: Short responses, no word count minimum
Type of Final Assessment:
  • Five- to six-page Strategic Fundamentals Plan
  • A 15 to 20 slide voice over presentation to describe the Strategic Fundamentals Plan
Notes & Overall Thoughts:
This one is pretty easy. The course is relatively short, but the content is easy to grasp. A 6-page paper is remarkably short for a final assessment – almost too short to actually be able to share knowledge on each required topic. Be sure to use the draft for this one because it can be easy to get off track on the assessment, focusing more on your business idea than on applying the strategy concepts from the course to your business idea.

Name: HUM103 - Creative and Critical Thinking
Subject: Humanities
Semester/Term: Summer Term 2 2023
Instructor: Denise Frusciante
Long or Short?: Long
Number of Outcomes: 6
Adaptive Outcomes?: No
Number of Milestone Activities: 3
Type of Milestone Activities: Short responses, no word count minimum
Type of Final Assessment: An 8-11 page paper that consists of three different components:
  1. Summary of complex problem.
  2. Demonstration of the critical thinking process.
  3. Implementation plan of a solution
Notes & Overall Thoughts:
I know others here have complained about Dr. Frusciante, but I didn't have too bad of a time. She expects you to use sources and citations, but she is a prompt grader and the milestones built towards the final project. The course does feel a little long.
