Transfer credit question for TESC
#1
Ok after doing hours upon hours of ALEKS and my brick and mortar state college lack of knowledge with A.C.E recommended classes for math, I was told they will only accept my A.C.E credits from "regionally accredited" schools.
I know TESC accepts A.C.E math from Aleks.

I called TESC and they couldn't really give me a straight forward question regarding my inquiry. My question for TESC was this....

Since my college does not accept any credits from non regional accredited schools, can I send my A.C.E Aleks credits to TESC and take a few classes there and have my TESC transcript show as taking my math requirements through TESC back to my current university so they will accept them?

BEFORE you jump in and enroll at TESC, I'd send my ACE transcript to student services and have them evaluate it. Don't say anything- just do it. See what happens. I don't trust your college advisor, only if the credit is denied should you start looking for a way to get it counted.
*Your way will cost THOUSANDS of dollars, mine will cost $20 (or whatever ACE charges at the time).

Ill go your first route and see what happens. However, why wouldn't they accept it from TESC if it shows it as taking it from there? They said they would accept college math credits from TESC, my main concern is will the TESC transcript show as taking math from TESC or ill the transcript say...transferred credit from A.C.E to TESC?

I do not know the answer regarding tesc, sorry. What is the name of your college, I would like to search for their ACE policy on their website.

Because that's called laundering. It is a MYTH that any transcript is THE transcript that a college will use to issue you credit. Always, credit must be evaluated off an original transcript from the original school. Since TESC doesn't teach the class, the fact that TESC "would" award you credit "if" you were a student means NOTHING to the rest of the world. If you college says no to the ACE transcript, they won't take it laundered through TESC either. (or at least I'd be willing to bet that they wouldn't- you never know, but I would find that highly unusual)
So, here is another example. Pretend this is your transcript from any college:

SPRING SEMESTER 2010
abc class, 3 credits A
def class, 3 credits A
xyz transfer class, 3 credits A
CLEP exam, 3 credits, pass

Say you completed a semester with this school but now want to transfer to TESC. You have 2 classes, 1 transfer, and 1 CLEP. This means you need THREE original transcripts sent to TESC. One from this college for the first two course, one from your transfer class, and one from CLEP.

Does that help to see why your current college won't take a TESC transcript in place of an ACE transcript? Because ACE is the one who has evaluated it for credit.

Thanks for the info Cook. My last question would be this then. I got 90 credits just need Math and Aleks seems to work with my math anxiety rather than the class room.
My question is this, If I got my A.A at TESC and transfered back to my college would they waive the core classes, *only one I need is math*, or will they still require me to do math even though I have an A.A?

Depends on your school...not every school accepts an AA to fulfill all their general ed requirements. You would have to check with them.

eyrobinson is right. If your college is a 4 years school, then the short answer is maybe. If they are a community college then certainly no.

The college's catalog will have a section on transfer policy. You want to look for phrases like "x credits awarded for the transfer of an AA degree" which indicates a block transfer. This means they don't evaluate each credit alone. Your best bet would be instate- meaning if your college is in NJ, you have a better shot of a block transfer.

Here is a shout out question- does anyone here know of a college that accepts an AA as a block transfer outside of regular articulation agreements?

I just answered your pm by the way.
