Transfer Equivalencies for study to TESU - Received Info

Hello!
I can finally add something to this forum instead of just asking questions

Below is from the TESU evaluator for all study math courses and what they transfer in as. Many were on the website but others weren’t:

Statistics 101: Principles of Statistics STA-201 Prin of Statistics 3 sh or 4 sh if take after 01/01/18

Math 101: College Algebra Mat-115 Intermediate Algebra 3 sh from 8/01/14 to 7/31/19

Math 102: College Mathematics MAT-102 General Math I 3 sh 8/14 to 7/19

Math 105: Precalculus Algeb Mat-192 Precalculus 3sh or 4 sh if taken after 01/01/18

Math 104: Calculus MAT-231 Calculus I 6 sh

Math 103: Precalculus MAT-121 College Algebra 3 sh

Business 110: Business Math BUS-161 Business Math 3sh

Geometry 101: Intro to Geometry MAT-260 Geometry 3 sh 12/01/16 to 11/30/19

Math 107: Quantitative Literacy MAT-119 Quant Business 3 sh 04/01/16 to 8/31/19

Math 97: Intro to Mathematicsl Reasoning MAT-105 Applied Liberal Art 2 sh 2/1/17 to 12/31/17 or 4sh after 01/01/2018

Math 98: Math for Everyday Life Developmental Math no credit award

Education 211: Teaching Elementary Math we do not have this course in our system

Math 99: Essentials of Algebra and Statistics This course is developmental and has no credit award

It's interesting about MAT 97 (TESU MAT 105) transferring as 4sh after 01/01/2018. This course duplicates the 3sh TECEP.

Did you take these in any particular order to maximize overlapping content?

One thing to add after my recent interaction with TESU academic advising:
Math 104: Calculus comes in as 6 credits for calculus 1 only(was hoping since it was 6 credits it could apply to calc 2 as well but that is not the case)

These were all known except MAT 98 & 99. Also, EDU courses won't count as math, even though it's "teaching math".

No I just started MAT 97 recently since I just need an additional 12 credits for my job (goal #1).  Goal #2 will be BSBA in Accounting (whenever that first goal is accomplished haha)

Thanks acamp!  I'm glad I didn't take the MAT 98.  Do we know if the Business Math would count as a Math requirement or Business requirement?  This is a big help!

Don't be discouraged by the feedback... contributing is a great way to learn. Plus, confirmations are always helpeful... new courses are introduced now and then and evaluations can change over time.

Business Math comes into TESU as BUS-161, and it should meet the Quantitative Literacy GenEd requirement. As for meeting business requirements, the only other math course required for the BSBA is Statistics, which BUS-161 does not meet. I don't think BUS-161 will fit anywhere else in the BSBA AOS either, but if it does, I'm sure someone else will chime in to correct me.

So, it may end up as a GenEd elective if you already have College Algebra or something like that.

Sorry, you caught me at a cranky time.  Yes, adding info is helpful, even if some is duplicative.

Just a clarification, if TESU brings a course in with an EDU prefix, it's a Free Elective (unless you're doing the BSPS with EDU as the Specialized Career Track).  So you need to find out by getting pre-approved before taking it, unless you have space in the Free Electives area and are willing to take the risk.

If TESU counts Business Math as a business course, rather than a math course, then they might let you use it in the AOS (I'm uncertain there) or they might just put it as a Free Elective.  I would either get it pre-approved, or else skip this course altogether - and I don't think it's considered one of the easier math courses anyway - the Business Math DSST has THE lowest pass rate of all DSST exams (13%).  By a lot (next lowest pass rate is 33%).

Don't sweat it. It's always good to get fresh confirmation. Someone searching for one of those courses will find your post and have more confidence in the info because it's recent. Besides, for all you knew, there could have been a surprise lurking in there that wasn't the same as before.
