I grew up just a few miles away from Harvey Mudd (and all of the Claremont Colleges), so I'm always excited to see the local representation...

This is not the same. This is for 12 companies in Silicon Valley. Not everyone wants to work for those 12 companies or in Silicon Valley.
This thread is about tech jobs among 100 tech companies not Silicon Valley. Please read. No one reads these days. This forum has a confirmation bias problem.

This list is fine if you plan to only apply to those 12 companies, but most realistic people would rather have many options. The vast majority of tech graduates will not be able to get into those companies.

I did read it, but it's a 5+ year old article regarding a field where changes come fast. So I provided a link to something similar with more recent numbers.

On its own, it's fine, but it's so dissimilar from the survey in the OP that it cannot act as a direct comparison. A survey of the top 12 companies in Silicon Valley is very different from a survey of the top 100 tech companies nationwide. Even if the surveys were done within the same year, they would likely result in different lists. It would be great if someone could find a more recent list that is more comprehensive, but it appears that no one, including myself, has found one.
While technology changes quickly, school size, ranking, and the schools employers target don't change drastically year to year. If an employer is mostly recruiting from a high-ranking university nearby, that likely isn't going to change unless the local university goes downhill.
