It's easy to get sidetracked with that "What-If" button - Go ahead and finish the 9 FEMA credits this weekend and have a BA Liberal Studies in the "can" - that way you've reached your goal. Then start studying for the 3 UL credits for a Humanities concentration or whatever you need for Communications.
It all depends on when you want to graduate.
To add a little spice to your plans, you might want to consider adding an Associate degree such as AAS Environmental Safety & Security Technologies to the line-up. In all likelihood, you have already completed that degree.
I'm working on a BA in History, and, thanks to Elinor's advice, I added the AAS Enviro. to my degree plan with no problems. I'm hoping to graduate soon with the BA History and AAS Enviro. Wow, I can hardly believe what I have been able to accomplish in less than one year!
Good luck on whatever you decide to do!!!

Stitching Belle Wrote:Thank you for all the input. I've got a lot to think about. I'm not sure that it really matters what my degree is--after all, I have 30+ years of work behind me, that's my job qualification. The degree is really about starting what I finished so long ago.
That said, I was in J-School back in the day when I was a full-time student on the Daddy-ride. So picking up a BA in Communications would be somewhat like coming full circle.
Here's a cut-and-paste of my TESC evaluation for the BA in Communications. Because my life is so erratic I really don't want to take any B&M classes if I can avoid them.
Any suggestions are welcome!

My vote: business communication, straighterline; interpersonal communication, distance learning (here's an option for self paced, enroll anytime
LSU Independent and Distance Learning), and dsst technical writing (check to see if that will work) or one of the teceps. Even though it is technically longer to finish this degree, you could still finish before the Jan 1 graduation deadline. You are close no matter how you look at it.

I'm thinking you should be three tests away from a BA in Communications.
Stitching Belle Wrote:I) A: Commun Theory
[Remaining: 3]
You should be able to fulfill this with:
ECE test
Interpersonal Communication [pdf] [relatively new test; likely to be transcripted at TESC as
COM-330]
Stitching Belle Wrote:I) B: Commun Electives
I) Group 2
[Remaining: 6]
I expect you could fulfill this with
two chosen from among:
DSST test COM209-DE
Principles of Public Speaking [pdf]
TECEP test COM201-TE
Public Relations Thought & Practice
TECEP test ENG201-TE
Technical Writing or DSST test ENG201-TE
Technical Writing [pdf]
plausibly TECEP test MAR323-TE
