I only took 1 TECEP as a student, but took a year's worth of classes. I wouldn't take another TECEP and I wouldn't get excited about the option. I found TECEP to be much harder than CLEP and much harder than my classes. Mine (Nutrition) was text-book specific and written by a 2nd grader. Okay, maybe not, but it was awful. I remember one question was "what is the most popular sandwich in America" and most questions were short answer / fill in the blank that you wouldn't know without the text.

But I'm wondering, if you take 8 TECEPs at $100 each, have you met the 24 credit hour residency requirement? Or, do they charge you the full tuition rate if you're not under the Enrolled Options Plan?
I think it states that a TECEP is an acceptable form of meeting residency requirements.

If you already have a degree from TESC and wish to complete a second degree is the residency still required?

So you think there would be a different price for TECEPs for a person on the per credit option instead of one of the other options? What would prevent someone from taking TECEPs before getting into the school (or do you have to be enrolled to take a TECEP?) and then signing up for the per credit option?

Maybe it won't count toward the residency requirement. I don't know, but I find it hard to believe that TESC will let you get out of the $3,000 enrollment fee by taking $800 worth of TECEPs when they are increasing tuition rates for courses to over $400/credit under the Per Credit Plan. They are obviously doing this to make up for the loss of the enrollment fee. There is also the possibility that they could start charging non-enrolled students more for TECEPs like they did in the past.

So I called the admissions office and asked them. They said that they DO charge $36 per credit hour for a TECEP under the new per credit tuition plan. The lady I spoke to said that they always charge $36 per credit for the TECEP whether you are enrolled or not.
I asked if taking 8 TECEPs would fulfill the 24 credit residency requirements for a bachelors degree and she said it would, however, not all courses may be available through TECEPs and you may need to take some of your courses through TESC, so you would need to check with your individual program. So if this is true... you can basically transfer your credits over and take 8 TECEPS without having to pay an enrollment fee correct? If this is true, this would save a ton of money.
I am still not sure if the lady I spoke with understood me correctly on the residency requirements. Maybe somebody could call as well and confirm that this information is correct. This is the admissions office number (888) 442-8372.

I never trust the admissions counselors or advisors over the phone. They are usually confused and give out incorrect information. It's probably better to talk to financial aid or the registrar or to send an email to info@tesc.edu where they will route your email to the right person.

I look forward to hearing TESC's response. I haven't enrolled in TESC yet. I plan to take as many CBEs as possible by next fall, then enroll. The deal they are offering MAY be a good deal.

I sent an email, and it was directed to an admissions counselor. I hope this information is correct because it sounds too good to be true. If it is true, it would make TESC the cheapest option out of the Big 3. For a BSBA with no capstone, it will only be $864. For a degree with a capstone, it will be $1551.
Quote:Yes, you may complete your degree requirements utilizing TECEPs as your residency requirements in the Per Credit Tuition Plan. The cost for an out-of-state resident to register for a TECEP is $36 per credit attempt.
