Here is a NY Times article from 1975. It calls it, "Regents External Degree Program."
I know you didn't go into an Education Office and talk to the rep and call it USNY.
I agree, though. It's even more of a pain in the ass to explain your transcripts to non-military people. They've heard of Regents but have no idea what USNY is.
Also, the layout of the credits on the transcript are atrocious. Dare I say, amateurish-looking. It almost looks like I made them myself.
