The environemnt and race to save..
#11
For anyone planning on taking Environment & Humanity in the future,

In preparing to take the exam, I found a web site which includes some additional study notes on this subject.

I thought I would share the link here, just in case anybody wants it:

http://members.cox.net/bennowak/environment/envre.htm

Hope it helps,

Here's another link to some free online lecture notes that I have found extremely useful in studying for Environment & Humanity. These notes are very thorough. Keywords also link directly to their built-in glossary. Very useful!

Hope this helps someone out there,

Hi All,

I just got back from taking the DANTES Environment & Humanity exam.

rbowman's breakdown of the exam was very accurate:
http://www.instantcertonline.com/forums/...php4?t=277

libartsmgr also presented her breakdown here:
http://www.instantcertonline.com/forums/...php4?t=237

My version of the exam contained 104 questions. It did not have any questions regarding human evolution (homo habilis, hom erectus, homo sapien etc.). However, since libartsmgr took a version that DID, you should make sure you know the info. There is obviously quite a lot of difference between the version rbowman and I took, and the version libartsmgr took. So make sure you review the information that BOTH of these people posted.

All in all, I think this exam is in the middle range as far as difficulty. It is not "easy". There were quite a few questions that I either did not know, or had to make an educated guess on. It does go into quite a bit of depth on certain topics, and the questions are worded in unusual ways. This alone prevents me from calling it "easy".

However, if you make sure you know everything that rbowman and libartsmgr mention, you should not find it "hard".

I used Instantcert to study for this one. But I also did quite a lot of external research in order to get more details on certain terms and principles. I strongly advise anyone taking this test to subsidize Instantcert with additional sources (I posted a couple of links earlier that proved to be VERY helpful). Wikipedia was also invaluable.

I have no clue how I did on this exam. I did too much guessing to be overly confident until I get my score back.

I'll let you know how I did once my score report arrives.

A couple of additional pointers...

Know what nonpoint source pollution is.
Know what the current % of world population growth is.
Know the difference between strip cropping and contour cropping.
Know which region of the US is MOST affected by Acid Rain.

Hope this helps,
Snazzlefrag

Hi All,

I just got my score back for Environment & Humanity and I got a 70. I am very relieved about that.

It took DANTES 23 days to get my score to me this time. That's a new record for me. The previous record was 22 days, but the last three exam scores before this one, all arrived in exactly 14 days. I thought maybe DANTES had hired extra staff, or improved the system...but I knew it was too good to last!

"Forgive me father for I have sinned. I have taken 23 exams since my last confession."

I currently have 70 credits, and am awaiting confirmation on 3 additional credits. Assuming I passed Principles of Finance, I have earned 73 credits so far.

Time is flying by! I can see the finish line from here.

That's awesome!!

I keep thinking that one of these days I'm gonna sit down and count out all the exams I've taken. Only 11 of my MS exams counted, but I've taken a lot more than that and I'm also Master MOS certified - did all 4 of those in one day. And every time I look at the number of ECE/CLEP/DSSTs I've taken, I'm literally shocked.

It really is an addiction! A HEALTHY one!!!

I agree with this guy. I used IC (my first IC test ever) supplemented by wikipedia. I did a little reading the night before about ecosystems, biomes and the like. There were a few questions about waste management, solid waste, landfills, etc. Every 10 questions or so there was one related to global warming, so know all about CFC's and carbon dioxide.

He wasn't kidding around about knowing the population growth rate, that was question number 1 for me, lol, also there were questions about China and India's growth rate, and there was one question requiring a calculation of exponential growth.

Quite a few on agriculture, especially fertilizer, and the different chemicals that make it up, know about topsoil and erosion, there was a diagram with a food chain and about 5 questions related to that, also know which region in the US is affected by Acid Rain.

All in all, not too bad of a test, Physical Science DSST next.
