A friend is looking for a test option for his daughters, and he remembers seeing an exam, however, I can't think of ANYTHING in this category, so I'm throwing it out for more ideas. Any suggestions are appreciated- it can be one test or many, he'll take what he can get.
Greeks, the Romans, the Medievals, and the Moderns
(PS this family studied this material using Great Books ACE evaluated course, however, to get the credit on a transcript to be eligible for ACE credit, Great Books charges $250 per credit and each of those 4 classes is 6 credits- making it $6,000 per child if he selected that option)

The University of Ohio has an independent study course on Ancient Greece. LSU has a independent study course in Greek and Roman Mythology. Also University of Missouri has independent study courses in Classical Mythology , Ancient Greek Culture, Greek and Roman Epic Genre, and The Ancient World on Film. Hope this helps! I know they are not exams but courses instead, exams are harder to find with this area of study.
Also check out University of Mich independent studies has the most courses not exams in this area. They have Roman Archeology, Greek Archeology, Ancient Cities, and a few others of interest.

Also, U of Idaho IS has History of Ancient & Medieval Philosophy, and World Literature I & II. Not sure if those are exactly what they're looking for, but it might cover some of the same areas. Again, a course, not an exam.

For what it's worth, American Public University has HIST301 - Ancient Greece, HIST302 - Ancient Rome, and HIST303 - The Middle Ages. Again, not tests and more on the expensive side, but I had a great experience with the 8-week APU courses that I took.

cookderosa Wrote:...Great Books charges $250 per credit and each of those 4 classes is 6 credits- making it $6,000 per child if he selected that option. Actually, the whole thing is 4 years: 8 classes, Greeks through Moderns, 6 credits each for a total of 48 credits. The entire cost would be twice that quoted: $12,000 per student. GREAT BOOKS ACADEMY HOMEPAGE – ACE College Credit
I couldn't find any Great Books-related alternatives that would work, at lower cost. At least 25 schools teach Great Books-related programs, but there are very few distance options. Distance courses from Harrison Middleton U. (NA -DEAC) are $300 per credit - more than the Great Books / ACE courses.
I, too, thought of CLEP Western Civ. as a test-out option, but I don't know how closely-related to an exam on the content of the Great Books that would be. Difficult to say.
