As you know, TESC is changing its general education requirements to align with LEAP outcomes. While their website is exceptionally helpful in showing how to use their own classes ($$$) to fulfill these hours, they don't say much about how to use CLEP and DSST exams instead. So, here is a guide to the new requirements while trying to use as few exams as possible. As always, there are many other ways to achieve these credits, and get approval from your advisor if you enroll after July 1, 2013.
NEW TESC General Education Requirements
Effective July 1, 2013
1. Intellectual and Practical Skills (15 credits)
CLEP College Composition (ENC-101/102)- 3 Composition, 3 Writing Intensive Coursework
ALEKS Intermediate Algebra- 3 Math
ALEKS College Algebra, ALEKS Statistics, and/ or Saylor Corporate Communication- pick 2 for 6 hours of electives
2. Human Cultures and the Physical and Natural World (18 credits)
Three 6-hour CLEPs fulfill the 3 required hours each in Social Science, Humanities, and Natural Sciences, as well as the 9 elective hours required.
CLEP Social Science â 6 Social Science
CLEP Humanities or CLEP Analyzing/ Interpreting Lit â 6 Humanities
CLEP Natural Science, Biology, or Chemistry -6 Natural Sciences
3. Personal and Social Responsibility (9 credits)
I donât see any 6-hour CLEPs to fulfill these requirements.
CLEP Introductory Sociology, DSST General Anthropology, and/ or DSST Human/ Cultural Geography â pick any 2 for 3 Diversity/ Global Literacy and 3 Elective
DSST Ethics in America- 3 Responsible Ethical Leadership
So it looks like you could finish the new core requirements with 5 CLEP tests, 2 DSSTs, and 3 ALEKS classes.
