Westerner Wrote:If that's the route you want to go, sure. But CP has worked with TESC for a long time, so by going with those 2, you get the Christian worldview and the distance-learning degree using mostly CBE or transfer credits, which gives the flexibility that Christian homeschoolers especially appreciate. Sure, CP's not for everyone. But it really works.
Forgive me if it's been said already, but seriously... What would Jesus do as a "Christian"? Charge someone a boatload for something they can get for free? Then use a good upstanding christian family to help them sell degreeforum with a crucifix on the banner?
The Duggars should be ashamed of themselves for many reasons, but this is just icing on the cake.
As for you Westerner, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and i respect yours. That being said, you're defending that business awfully hard. Just think what would jesus do. Give his knowledge freely (degreeforum) or sell it to the masses in the spirit of fellowship in christ...

Westerner Wrote:You know what? It all comes down to personal choice. Using a company with a Christian worldview like CP, or using an Acedemic counselor. Doing the research yourself or paying CP to do it. Using this Forum (which rocks, too, BTW) as a supplemental source or not. We are blessed by God to live in a capitalist society with a LOT of different options, and the freedom to use any and all of them. I'd rather people understand CP and appreciate that it works for some, and not say they "hate" it, or criticize people who endorse it.
Westerner... just another comment... Capitalism is a great system for capitalists. Unfortunately, most people in the United States are not capitalists, i.e. those who live and make their money sitting by the pool collecting dividend checks.
Our country's democratic republic structure combined with regulated capitalism worked GREAT until upto 1981. That when supply side economics took over. Its been down hill for the bottom 50% in this country ever since then.
It upsets me to no end, that corporations (sorry, I meant people, corporations are people now) like CP enrich themselves on other peoples ignorance, especially since this Amazing forum is sitting here for free, with people helping people, being kind to each other, opening the eyes of the ignorant with the light of knowledge given freely...
I wonder which one Christ would like better...

I'd pay for more emoticons. I could Google, download and import myself, but my time investment is worth more.

All right then. If we're comparing CP versus DF... Some more reasons CP is actually helping and not ripping people off.
1. CP gives students the Learning Network free. This is basically SpeedyPrep + short videos accompanying the answers, and is really helpful for CLEPs especially.
2. Again, nothing against this Forum, but with CP you're guarenteed a quick answer from your coach, and they help you come to a definite conclusion. Whereas, here, a common answer is, do what works best for you. Well, with CP, you and your coach build a relationship and they get to know you and your situations, making it easier to figure out solutions.
3. Brad Voeller started CP when distance learning was newer, as a way to show others how to earn their degrees like he did. He just wanted to help people. That sounds pretty Christ-like to me. And it isn't unchristian to make a profit.
4. CP is targeting the younger students, even high schoolers. They want them to get the right degree in order to be equipped to fulfill their life purposes. They want them to not waste time dragging through college when the process could be accelerated. IC/DF doesn't market itself that way, just as a CLEP-prep aid.
5. DF just isn't as well known!!! Unfortunate, but true. It's usually discovered when one is already into the process of CLEPing. If the plan for DF is to be a free version of CP, it would be better to market that way, not rant about CP.
Brucet3, why do you say the Duggars should be ashamed? They're a godly Christian family letting their lights shine—what's wrong with that?

Amen! It was a College Plus link that eventually got me hear. I hated the Idea of paying someone for information and then having them pray with you or your child for my success. Sounded too much like prayers for Cash. Although some people here have used them and found them helpful. I think that the constant contact by CollegePlus can help people who aren't really motivated. I'm more motivated by the cash I'll save in the Long run by using Instantcert flashcards and other resources found here.
Don't forget that gaining college credit by taking exams is one of the reason's we're here. That's mainly possible through the flashcards made available by the owner of this forum : InstantCert Plus of course your hard work in learning and reviewing
