Testing with no college
#1
Question - my 15 year old is about to start testing - his first will be a DSST. We're not anywhere near enrolling him in college yet, so what code should he put for the college when he creates his DSST login? Does anyone here have experience with that?

Thanks!

You do not have to choose any college yet, when he enrolls you can just request his transctipt. I started testing, then enrolled with Excelsior College.

Best plan.

Sending out the first score report is free, so if you have even an idea of which school he MIGHT go to one day, it would be a good idea to put that school's code in. IF he goes to that school, the scores will be on file and you won't have to pay to have them sent. If he doesn't, then you'd be paying the fee anyway, so no harm done Confusedeeya:

Our local community college only holds scores for 6 months. If you don't officially enroll within that time, your file is deleted. We started early as well and did not send scores to a specific school until after enrolling. Then we had one official transcript with all the scores listed sent.

Okay, I'm kind of in the same boat. Here's my experience thus far:

When I took my first DSST, the proctor had me put in the testing center's code. It may have just been for a $10 discount, but that was the situation. For my next DSSTs (I've only taken 3 so far.) I haven't put in any code. I don't know what that means for transcripts exactly, but I think I've gathered from other threads here, and from questions I've asked, that you do pretty much the same thing as for CLEPs. Hopefully everything will work out 'cause that whole 6 month thing wouldn't work for me. :o If things continue as they have so far, I won't be ready to enroll until sometime late-ish next year.

Oh, and for the 2nd DSST I took, I had to create a new account because... of a combination of things: 1) My first password was impossible to remember (it had to have a certain number of capital letters, a number, and a symbol, or something like that.), and 2) I stupidly only put it in my iPod when I created it, and 3) a toddler got a hold of my iPod and deleted that note and all my songs... :ack: still trying to figure out how she did that... Anyway, I've learned my lesson, and the second account has a password that makes sense to me. Nothing too much lost, just a little time.

Good luck to your son on his first test! Smile

Laura,
Yes - CLEP works the same. Banks your credits and you can then request a transcript be sent to the college of your choice.

If you made two accounts with Prometric, I'd suggest you give them a call and request that they can be merged to just one. Otherwise, this will give you a hiccup when you go to request transcripts. Very friendly and helpful folks on the phone.

Thanks for the help! I think he will probably be ready to test within a month and I'll let everyone know how he does!

Probably a good idea, but would that require knowing my password? I think I remember the username, but there's no way I can remember that password.
