I have a NY elementary certification. In order to get a HS certification you need 30 credits in whichever subject you want to teach. I only had 12 credits from my bachelor's degree.
This summer over the course of 2 weeks I CLEPPED 18 English credits, passed the NYS certification exam, and was just hired as an 11th grade English teacher.
Otherwise, it would have taken 1 1/2 years and roughly $6,000 to accomplish that coursework.
