Well, I've been dragging my feet, but ever since my younger brother got accepted to University of Michigan Law School about a year and a half ago, I've been mulling over the idea of taking the LSAT, mainly for kicks. I finally registered for it a couple weeks ago, and I'll be taking it on Dec. 6. I've been scoring around 170 on the practice exams, and I've ordered another prep book, since I want to beat my brother's 171. I'm not 100% sure I'm up for three years of law school, but if I really nail the exam (170+), I'll at least apply to the new law school that University of California, Irvine is starting. Their inaugural class starts next fall, it will be limited to 60 students, and they hope to offer full ride scholarships to all 60. It's a brand new school, so it's not yet accredited -- they can apply for provisional accreditation at the start of their second year, and I have every confidence they'll get it. The Dean is Erwin Chemerinsky, and he's recruited an all-star faculty. Faculty/student ratio will be about 1/4 for the first couple of years. Students will have a unique opportunity to shape the curriculum.
I have to admit that part of my motivation is a desire to see what offers I can get with my Excelsior College 3.74 GPA and (I hope) a solid LSAT score. Would it be too cheeky of me to ask for a letter of recommendation from EC President Ebersole? I did meet him at commencement weekend, and I suspect he will probably even remember who I am.
Anyway, I'm just posting to try to get a cheering section going. Wish me luck!

Good luck man. I remember reading the progress reports you gave for your bachelors and always found them inspiring. I have no doubt you'll do great in this latest endeavor. Let us know how it goes on Dec 6th!

I'm sitting the 12/6 LSAT myself. Been hitting around 165 on my PTs & only need a 163 to get a full ride at Cooley Law in Auburn Hills, MI.
I am still a few credits from completing my Bachelors at TESC n Emergency Management. But Cooley allows u to enter with 60 credits or more.
Good Luck 2 U G! B sure to get plenty of rest on the 5th. BTW 12/5 is my B-Day & I have a HUGE party planned. Hopefully, I'll have enuff self discipline to roll out at about 10-1030 hilarious

Hey Gary,
That's a GREAT plan. I hadn't heard about UC Irvine's new law school--but what a terrific opportunity. I would definitely ask for a letter from the EC prez (it fits neatly into my decision matrix under "can't hurt, might help") and, as far as I can tell, that's a large part of what these education administration types do. It'll be good for EC to add UC Irvine School of Law to their list of law schools to which their students have been accepted.
Finally, my perception is that CA is not quite as progressive when it comes to the Big 3--as our area appears to be dominated by the U of P and, to a lesser extent, Woodbury, when it comes to adult education. If UC Irvine is looking to give 60 scholarships I'd be real interested to see if they would give you a look.
The bottom line is that you're already prepared for the LSAT, so take it and apply--regardless of your score. You can always make your final decision after you get accepted (notice I said "after" and not "if!")
Good luck and go for it!

Just got my score, and with some lucky guessing, I managed a 173, which is 99th percentile. I'm sure my experience taking CLEPs and DSSTs and ECEs as well as recently doing the Psychology GRE had a lot to do with it. Now I really need to get moving on the application process, as I'm out of excuses. hilarious

Now just apply. To be fair, my brother actually got a better raw score, but ran into a tougher grading curve. I'll call it a draw.
