Taking 6 CLEPs in one semester?

I've never taken any of the exams before, but I want to take 6 by the end of the semester (while taking three classes) so that I'll be considered a junior. I'm studying for the Human Growth exam right now and I plan to take it in a couple of weeks when my classes start. Others I plan on taking are Western Civ 1, college mathematics, chem, bio, and possibly the statistics Dantes. I have a little over $600 already set aside for this (the price of taking one 3 hour course at my university) so I'm serious. I'm using the instantcert study guides.

How long should I give myself to study for each exam? I'm a psych major and already took Lifespan Developmental, so I'm confident about Human Growth. Bio and chem I'm not so good at, while mathematics and statistics I'm familiar with, but in need of studying. Western Civ I'm not familiar with, but I don't think it'll be too difficult.

How many questions are on each of these exams and how many do I need to get right to pass? Thanks!

Are you certain that Human Growth isn't a duplicate of Lifespan Development? I would double check.

Chem and Bio are difficult exams for most people...but there is some overlap so it makes some sende to take them back to back.

If you rcomfortable enough with math to indicate that your "familiar" with them then I suspect College MAth will be pretty easy for you. DSST Stats is considered a very forgiving test with an easy curve....though the subject is a complex one.

You should join IC and see the specific exam feedback...the rest of your questions should be readily available there.

Just thought I'd give my two cents on the subject. First off, I don't know how time consuming the three classes you referred to are, but completing six CLEPs in a semester is certainly not an overwhelming task. I do have a few suggestions though.

One: Make sure you have the CLEP official study guide for practice tests that you don't go in the test blind.

Two: I don't know that I would recommend taking the Chem. test (or perhaps even bio). These tests are the two hardest in the whole CLEP arsenal, with very little passing rates. If you have to take them, give yourself a bit more time than usual.

Three: As replacements for these tests, you may want to consider Psych or Sociology, since they are significantly easier (of course, it just depends on what type of credits you need for your degree).

Four: As to how long for each test, I usually take a CLEP a week, however, some find it easier to fit it in two weeks.

Five: There are usually about 90-120 Q's per test (but College Math. has 70). Anyway, hope that helps in some way!

Yes, I actually checked the school website and Lifespan Developmental is DEP3024 while Human Growth and Development is DEP2004, so they're two different courses. I just need HG&D because I need an extra psych class to fulfil a requirement in order to graduate.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm a full time student and not working at the moment, so I have plenty of time. My classes are sort of demanding, but I know I'll pass them (trying to make the dean's list, actually).

I've already taken Intro to Psych, but I'll look into Intro to Sociology to see if it will fulfill any requirements I need to graduate. I already took Social Psychology and even though they are considered two different courses I'm sure they overlap. Thanks for the suggestion and the info.

You say I should get the clep official study guides... You don't think instant cert is enough? Regardless I think I'll get the study guides for bio and chem anyway, good investment.

This is the Official CLEP Study Guide. There is a new one being released soon, but it usually isn't necessary to have the most recent guide. It covers all of the CLEP exams - topics list and about 60 practice questions each. It is the best way for me to know when I am ready for the real exam.

Also, consider REA Study Guides with teaching material and practice tests. Some people like to use the timed practice tests on CD (extra money), but I did not need them (on paper in the book was fine).

Get the 2010 version of the official guide. It costs only a few dollars. People have posted that the sample tests in it haven't been updated, which makes sense because it costs so much to write them.
