Can you take the "Udacity Data Analyst Nanodegree" before applying to be in the WGU program "Data Management & Data Analytics" ?
It looks like the Nano Degree is a big part of the WGU degree, and I am already taking some classes at Udacity. I was wondering if I could take the Udacity class to see if I really liked Data Analytics, before trying to enroll in to the WGU class.
Or is it likely WGU might change their core lessons to something other than Udacity's class? Or maybe the Udacity class only counts if take through WGU.

you could but that wouldn't be smart
WGU PAYS for the nanodegree
just like they pay for the A+, Network+, Project+ and all the other certificates

WGU is the only school that gives you credit for the nanodegree
if you want to find out if data analytics is for you then do these free courses at kaggle
go here
https://www.kaggle.com/learn
take the python course
at the end of the python course is a "titanic project"
try the project -- if you can't do it, fine, no problem -- you can do it later
do the Pandas course
do the Data Cleaning course
do the Data Visualization course
and there are other free courses you can do on edx
https://www.edx.org/course/analyzing-data-with-python
https://www.edx.org/course/data-analytics-for-everyone
https://www.edx.org/course/data-science-r-basics
there are a few paid courses you can do through coursera ($79 a month I think -- and I'm not sure WGU will give you get any credit for them -- if you do its only going to be for one or two introductory courses)

I think it comes down to calculating the cost of doing the Udacitiy program on your own vs at WGU. If it takes someone 6 months to finish, that would be an entire term at WGU or ~$3920. Per month, that would be $653. Udacity charges about $399 per month not including any discounts/promos. Alternatively, one could theoretically be knocking out a lot of other courses at WGU at the same time as the nanodegree. Of course, they could do it through Udacity while also completing cheap alt credits.
