TESU - plans and 2nd BA
#11
All, NationsU doesn't charge a technology fee. Books for the MDiv cost $1400 (free electronic or discount paper back versions available). It would be neat to have a dedicated section on this forum or degreeinfo to share experiences.

After seeing your earlier post I went back to the catalog and saw they did away with the technology fee as of January 1, 2016.

I do need to step up my plans though. I'm currently taking a biblical Hebrew course through another source and figured I would finish it first (because it is taking a lot more time than I expected). However, it is worth it to save about $500/year to start my registration sooner rather than later - even if I'm not going as fast as I want. They lock your tuition rate for two years once you enroll so no big surprises in the future.

I started purchasing textbooks already from used book sources (Amazon, half price books, etc). I don't think I'll spend as much as $1400 if I am careful. Another student on another forum said he didn't even buy textbooks for the first three classes because he already had a lot of background knowledge. I still went ahead and bought the OT textbook to be safe.

I would love to connect with others who are in one of their programs. When do plan to enroll?

rlw74, ah wish I were reviewing Hebrew now.  I studied as a tween and had a Bar Mitzvah.  It's been 37 years but can pick it back up.  We are required to take 6 credits in MRS 200s - Hebrew Scriptures.  I will lock in late December (once my capstone is complete), then start as soon as possible.
Have you ever googled, "What can you do with a divinity degree"?  It's pretty impressive.  I'll PM you my contact info.

If I can do that, wow, I'll take a year or so, maybe two to get that; I'll also have time to work on my Biz/IT certs and my "other online Masters" before I start this and the DBA.

My current plan is: Travel until the end of this year.  Start & finish Cisco IT/Biz Certs from Dec 28, 2017 to April 28, 2018, and work on a Masters program such as Patten MBA Finance right about May 2018 for 4 months (be done by August 2018).  After that MBA is done, I'm planning to do the Hodges MIS and I want to have done in 6 months by Feburary 2019.

Finally can work on this M.Divinity program along with the Taft DBA, it'll take me at least a year or two for both... Yup, got my 5 year plan already in place, but many things don't go according to plan... that's when there's a second or third backup plans in place for everything...

Wow, MDiv is 83 graduate credits, so I'm not sure you could do it any quicker than they suggest, if you're also juggling work or another degree? Their other Masters is only about half the number of credits.

Their MDiv is so cheap! I think it has some kind of project to be done in-person where you live. They don't give information on it, but from the title of the course I'm guessing that's the case.

What would you do with your MDiv?

Agreed. I'd like to start with the MTS and continue to MDiv if it makes sense - recently started investigating becoming a chaplain. Pretty steep requirements unless one's already a pastor or ordained. I think bjcheung77 may be a genius to do 2 degrees. With my schedule MTS is all I can handle.

What kind of chaplain do you want to be? You need a theology-related master's of at least 72 credit hours to become a military or Civil Air Patrol chaplain. Other settings usually have lower educational standards.

I'm leaning towards military - Civil Air Patrol since it's only part time and allow me to get my feet wet.  Possibly do that until I retire from my regular career, then expand to other environments.  So the MDiv will be required but I'd still like to set MTS as the first smaller goal in case anything changes.
