TESU course info & syllabus

I'm registered for the November BUS-421-OL capstone course which starts in about a month. I was just sent a reminder to purchase my books and in looking to see which one I need I realized that I can't find a course syllabus or required materials info section in myEdison. I know these exist since I've seen older versions of the syllabus.

Where can I download the syllabus and book list for my course? I know the course list gets updated right before the new term starts which probably will have a link to stuff like that, but I'd imagine it's available now if one knows how to find it. Getting it a couple days before term start seems a bit late. Their website is pretty poorly designed and not exactly intuitive.

I managed to find the info and ISBN for the course textbook via the TESU bookstore (which I won't be using since those prices are crazy) but still no luck on the syllabus.

Luckily, most of the courses I've taken so far have included all the study materials needed so this hasn't been an issue for me in the past. It looks like there are a number of online resources available to help price shop for new, used, and rental textbooks. Of the price comparison sites that I've found, the most popular appear to be studentrate.com, bigwords.com, and slugbooks.com. Amazon's physical book rental prices seem pretty affordable as well in comparison to those listed on the comparison sites.

It looks like I can rent a new or used copy of the current edition US version textbook for around $25-$35 for the semester, which seems like a pretty good deal. I'd think the ebooks would be cheaper but most are much more expensive, running in the $125-$175 range for a 90-day rental. Unless I can find someone who has a copy they want to get rid of cheap, I'll probably just rent a physical textbook.

Now if I can just get a copy of the syllabus so I can start planning ahead for the work that I'll need to do on the capstone.

I rented my physical textbook from Amazon for ~$30 with free 2 day shipping instead of paying over a hundred to the store tesu recommends and paying another $15 for 2 week shipping. Amazon also gives free shipping on the return. If you're not a prime member you can get 6 months free for being a college student.

Yeah, that is what I figure I'll do as well. I do all my online shopping via Amazon so I'm already a long-time Prime member.

You will need the textbook edition that is recommended, as the BUS-421 it is very heavy on the case studies (which are often specific to the edition).  I used https://www.textbookrentals.com/ to locate my book rental.   I don't recall having access to the syllabus until just a day or two prior to the course starting. 

My biggest tip for the course is watch the electronic calendar! Once you get access to the syllabus you'll also get access to a pdf 'calendar/schedule' - it is truly only a vague guide on timeline (ie: when it says "week three" X,Y,Z is due - it doesn't explain that Y is due Monday, Z is Wednesday and X on Sunday night).  This almost caught me for a fail a few times, as the professor I had didn't update the TRUE course E-Calendar often until a day before the week started, and sometimes after it started. Once he updated it and something was due that day (posted at 3pm, due by midnight - all on a Tuesday, while the pdf calendar indicated it would be due at the end of week, Sunday).  So in summary, my advice is - Check the E-calendar, and check it often - no matter which professor you have, and try to be ahead for the weekly assignments as best you can and you'll do great.

Btw, this site basically let's you search the entire world's libraries for a specific book:

You may get lucky and find your book in digital or hardcopy available from a library relatively close.

That is helpful. One of the reasons I want the syllabus is so I can plan ahead and either start my readings early or at least put my calendar together so I know what I need to have done by when.

FYI, how big of a time requirement does the capstone entail? I'll probably be finishing up the last 1-2 study.com courses at the same time, so I'm a bit concerned about time constraints.

I will second this.  I actually just printed out the timeline from my syllabus, and figured out all of the dates that way (I think everything was due on a Saturday).  I just wrote in all of the dates, and checked each Sunday for what was coming due, and usually did it on Monday (I had the whole day to do it, you may not).  I would just plan it out that way, giving yourself plenty of time to do the work each week.  I think I probably spent 1-2 hours reading the chapter and taking notes, and then 3-5 hours doing the case study and assignment question(s).  If I didn't get everything done on Monday for some reason, I had the rest of the week to finish up.  But I usually got it done on day 1.

The other thing to remember is to go to ProctorU and schedule the midterm exam early, so you can do it when you want.  I took mine on a Saturday morning I think, when it was going to be very quiet at my house for some reason (I think my husband took the kids camping or something along those lines).  I did not need as much time as was allotted, but it sure was nice to have all of that time just in case.  It was not an easy midterm, and I needed all of my brain power going for it.

I think you can finish up the Study.com courses, if you prioritize the capstone.  Worst thing that happens is you spend another $200 on another month of Study.com.  That's certainly better than getting a bad grade on the capstone!!
