TESU BSBA and ASBA completed - Advice for new degree seekers :)

TrailRunr Wrote:If you're poor, lack of money is going to slow you throughout the process, not just the at the end. If you're poor enough, you may not even be able to take another SL course, CLEP, DSST, or TECEP. Or you can't pay the upfront $2.9k all-you-can-eat tuition at WGU. And WGU is a continuous enrollment institution. Or you may not be able to afford the TESU $75 app fee and the transcript costs.

I'm sorry if you are in an undesirable situation with your budget or have caregiving duties, but not all of us are. Don't lump all of us in as poor. Some of us can pay $2k-$5k in one shot thanks to our jobs or tuition reimbursement. The residency waiver fee won't slow you down at all if you have the money.

I was responding to someone who said that not having the money to pay for a degree "shouldn't slow you down". I was explaining how this COULD slow SOME people down. I did not lump everyone in as poor!

And I am really happy for you that you can come up with thousands of dollars whenever you need to! I'm glad to hear it. You don't sound pretentious, condescending, or rude at all.

I'm glad I found out about the "Ignore" button recently, I will be using it going forward. Please feel free to use it on me yourself.

I think you have a lot of good advice most of the time so I'm not going to use the ignore button on you. On the other hand, I can tell you don't like admitting you're wrong. I'll admit when I'm wrong, or that we agree to disagree (which is what it seems like here), but you have a hard time reversing course.

Remember the advice to wait to matriculate? You said waiting is better in multiple threads. Some of us don't agree at all with that advice unless you are really broke. I pointed out that the TECEP residency requirement was NOT avoidable because it was impossible for a new student to matriculate by the deadline. Anyone who followed your advice to wait til the end to do the 8 TECEP program would have paid $1.1k extra. I can understand if the app fee of $75 is rent money, but it's still penny saved pound foolish. Don't save $75 and then lose $1k as a result. If you have the $75, just spend it and don't take a chance on requirements changing on you. Maybe the same thing with $2k if you are applying for a promotion tomorrow morning that requires a BA. Just spend it and get it done.

Wow, did this get out of hand. Sure money can be a huge obstacle. I had just asked because it seemed like the OP might be under the impression that the residency changes required taking the actual courses at TESU or something.

"The changes with the TECEPs not counting as residency credits will make a difference for future students. I would have had another 6 months at least if I hadn't made it in before the TECEP rule changed."

I worded this wrong and I apologize for that. I was trying to write it in a hurry, because I haven't had much time to be on the forum lately. It wouldn't have taken me another 6 months (maybe 1 month, because I would have had to study for the Strategic Managment TECEP instead of taking it through Penn Foster). I wasn't thinking about the $2k fee that you can pay in order to avoid the residency credits. It'll cost you more money at this point, which could add more time into the process if you don't have the $2k saved up and don't want to get a loan. However, it will still save you money and time, because you won't have to take the actual classes through TESU or another college. If you already have the money saved up or decide to get a loan, then it won't add any extra time to the process.

Sorry for the confusion. Hope you all have a wonderful day!
