TESU Liberal Arts Capstone mentor feedback
#51
Sorry, I missed this earlier.

All is well! I have a little over three 3 weeks left, and it's looking good. Unless something catastrophic happens on my last chapter or final compilation of the work, there should be no issues with me getting an A.

It is a lot of work, and I wouldn't want to do it again, but if I had to, I wouldn't be stressed out by it at all like I was heading in to it. It's a fairly simple process, just a time consuming one.

Like I said previous, the paper I've put together isn't the most interesting (even to me as I write it), and not even my best work, but it's more than a doable class. You just repeat yourself a lot.

Regarding Dr. Casey Maugh:

I like Dr. Maugh. Her grading was not harsh. Her feedback was helpful, but she also let us know that she didn't correct every single error, that it's up to the student to do proper proofreading based on her feedback and writing guidelines. She gives sample papers and I found them to be more helpful than the required textbook. I didn't even purchase the recommended textbook.

I agree with you. I really liked my topic, though, and I learned a whole lot. However, I think any topic will start to go stale once you've torn it apart, chapter after chapter. The format just doesn't lend itself to interesting reading. Still, I think the class is more than doable and I actually think it's a good exercise for a bachelor's degree program. I took the Guided Study, against advice not to, and I don't regret that decision. It allowed me to focus more on my own writing and research. Whether or not the guided study option works for others would depend on that person - the strength of their writing skills, ability to work independently, time, etc.

I was planning to sign up for the October TESU OL Capstone session, but the options are: B. Moore, J. Cody, A. Black, and B. Arnold.

There is only one slot left for Cody, while all the others have almost all of their slots available, so am guessing he is most popular (and he does have a good Ratemyprof feedback score). I was hoping for one of the other more popular options listed in this thread, so now am thinking I may wait for the November session.

davewill had positive things to say about cody on the first page of this thread, too.

Completely understandable if you want to wait to Nov, but make sure you're not just looking for excuses to put it off just because you're worried abut the course in the back of your mind. I wish I would have started mine a month earlier and just have been done with it.

Not that you're necessarily doing that.

Oh, but now that you mention it, I might be! :leaving: Confusedmilelol:

I don't know, I think the other thing is trying to figure out if I want to be taking a course over my kids' Christmas breaks.

Well, and then there is the little issue of how TESU divides their Pell Grant allocations... it looks like they have it set for Aug (which I didn't do), and next possible is November. I'll have to contact them about that & whether they switch it or not may be the deciding factor.

I signed up to take it with Cody last night. It wraps up on Dec 18th so a good week before Christmas. I decided to just go ahead because I have a cruise in January and I don't want to be writing a paper on a beach in the Caribbean Smile

Spent half an hour on hold, but finally talked to a live person in the financial aid dept. She said it will take 24 hours to change my aid in the system. I had her go ahead and do it, and am just going to *hope* that the final spot with Cody stays available.

I have Dr cody right now and could not be more pleased. despite errors and corrections needed in my chapter drafts, I have only gotten 100's on my grades. I think that is because he understands that these are drafts and as such are going to be imperfect. if you follow the format and write about the items that are spelled out clearly in the assignments then no reason you won't get an A here. if there is a spot left, grab it now!
