TESU Cyber Security

Looking for information on how to accomplish, from start to finish, a BA in Cyber Security at TESU. I am the mom of a HS Senior. He has no college credits as of yet. Just learning about how to do all of this. TESU seems to be the easiest and cheapest, but being a newbie, I could be wrong.

If anyone has any resources to get started with a plan I would appreciate the help. Thanks!

Excelsior also is only one of 11 that the Federal OPM now favors for Federal workers.  That being said I would do any of the three, but I do see more acceptance of Excelsior College in from the Federal folks.  This cybersecurity degree online meets the academic requirements for cybersecurity set by the National Security Agency.

The CAE Community is the national point for the Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Security which is comprised of two programs: The CAE in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) and the CAE in Cyber Operations (CAE-CO). The CAE-CD program includes CAE- Research (CAE-R), CAE-Four Year Education (CAE-CDE) and CAE-Two Year Education (CAE-2Y) colleges and universities as designated by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. Complementing the CAE-CD program is the CAE-CO program for four-year colleges and graduate-level universities with a particular emphasis on technologies and techniques related to specialized cyber operations. The CAE Community Portal endeavors to be a web powered mechanism for the fruitful exchange of relevant information, ideas, and events by CAE institutions for CAE institutions.

This is a very expensive degree at TESU, since there are a lot of requirements that can't be taken elsewhere, and each course at TESU is $1500. If he were to do the Comprehensive Tuition plan at around $9000/yr, which would include 36cr, I question whether he would be able to do that many courses and really get his bang for the buck there.

He'd be much better off with a traditional 4-yr in-state school, or another school instead of TESU. Does he want to do an online school? Or is he ok with going to a regular school, including Community College to offset some of the costs? Has he done online courses before? It's not an easy way to go through, if he's not super self-motivated.

And WGU is #7 on this list. To get into the school, you could check and see if his HS is a Comptia partner to get a discount on one of their exams (e.g. Network+ or Security+). WGU has requirements to get into their Cyber Security program. Either one of those exams would fit the bill (and would also count for credit). You can also look at WGU's requirements and start taking exams (DSST, AP or CLEP) to knock out some of the GenEDs (English Comp I & II, Intermediate and College Algebra, Statistics, Science, Social Science, etc.). It's $3000 per term, but more of a "one stop shop" than "The Big Three" (you can take most of the classes from the school inexpensively).

I'm planning on enrolling at WGU in June for the same degree, and have been knocking out what I can before I enroll.

You bring up one great point as many Community Colleges have been certified by NSA too.  I bet with an NSA approved 2-year CC cybersecurity degree you could do the Big 3 easy with all the needed skills.

For giggles, maybe he should start with the free sources of credit (including the 6 hours of cyber security training from TEEX):

At the very least it will get him started on the idea of independent study, and the TEEX credits will give him an idea of what he's in for with a Cyber Security degree ;-)

They're all unranked. No one cares about that junk ranking with inaccurate information. Plus, TESU's program is not old enough to have a graduating class.
