TESU Computer Science Degree Plan 9/2020
#51
5 classes left for me.

Registering for the capstone for march.

Going to finish Computer Aritechture and Data Structures and Algorithms by the end of Feb.

Then I'll have just calculus at straighterline and a 50/50 chance of taking Linear Algebra at Cooperstone or just a TESU class.
Maybe I will do the TECEP not sure. I think I am too far away from the 16 credits at TESU to not have to pay for the waiver which doesn't bother me too much

I got Data Structures, Computer Architecture and Calculus left.

Data Structures I'm done with the course, just have to turn in the project.  Computer Architecture a few more hours on the course, then just turn in the project.

Calculus I'm going to hit it hard and try to get it done in a week.

Wait, you're applying for the capstone/cornerstone when you have 15 credits remaining? I thought they changed it so you require 104 credits or more before they will allow your capstone to be started. Hmm, was there another change in the works we weren't aware of? Interesting... I would actually recommend if you're wanting to graduate in June to at least try registering, but if you're going for Sept graduation, you don't need to rush it! lol we are are very close to each other in terms of progress.
I am also done with the Data Structures course, I just need to turn in the project.
I still need to take on the computre Architecture quizzes test and assignment. How hard was the test and how long did the assignment take you? I am trying to finish in the next 30 days.
Yeah I think straighterline Calculus I will also try to finish in a week as well.

I think I am at 102 credits right now I talked to academic advising and they said they would be able to get me access to the capstone. The reason I started this is because when I sent my latest transcripts, the message said I had already had my second evaluation and I needed to register in a class before they would give me a third. So that's my rush to register for classes. If I need to register in April instead of March that is no big deal but I would prefer to finish my degree sooner so I can start actually learning how to code by working on some open source projects. The sooner I get all my credits the sooner I can hopefully start coding a ton.

I thought the requirement was still 100 credits?
https://www.tesu.edu/academics/catalog/capstone-policy

At any rate, I applied to take the capstone with just 95 credits and had to ask for a waiver to the rule which was granted.  It is something not set in stone so you can plead your case.  Jsarles already did a degree with them so it shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah I think straighterline Calculus I will also try to finish in a week as well.

I haven't taken the tests yet.  I imagine the tests won't matter once you turn in the assignment and get around a 90% A on them because you could get a 20% on the final exam and still pass which could be done blindfolded.

I heard on the data structures test they only ask for the basic names of the data structures and don't get into the little details of how each one of them work.  So I'll just be studying for the basics.  I'll probably have a similar gameplan for the Computer Arch test.

The data structure assignment took around 6 hours to get the code initially working.  I just need to tweak it a bit, add comments before I turn it in.  Computer Arch I  haven't started yet, looks like going to be a pain with the programming language required.

Calculus I have a precise gameplan of how to get through that course.  Basically, I'm going to prep by watching some YouTube videos and use Calculus math solver such as this one here https://www.symbolab.com/ so I don't have to do manual math.  This course has a history of breaking people into multiple pieces, I know you don't play around with this one.  Hopefully, I'll survive it.

My only recommendation or two, is to do the Capstone by itself, and maybe have all your AOS completed before starting on the Capstone. The AOS courses from Study.com do take time, especially the assignments. I was able to cram up to 7 courses in a month, but they were all lower level. Doing 15 credits and trying to do the Capstone at the same time would be killer... for the sake of your brain cells, tread carefully! Again, as I mentioned in my previous post, I wouldn't rush it, I'll try to finish asap, but you know your limits...

Yeah luckily the capstone is part of the 15. Only 12 credits besides that. I just switched to a new job that is very laid back so I have a lot more brain cells for studying and I took the last two months off from school so I'm feeling recharged. My gf is a software engineer so the data structure assignment doesn't scare me. The straighter line calculus is mostly open book.   I think computer architecture will be a bear but I have the next three weeks or so to focus on that.  And if I do well on the test and quizzes as I usually do, the assignment only needs to get me a 50 or so.  I appreciate the concern!   Luckily I really have till August to send in all my transcripts and graduating in December wouldnt bother me either.   No need to rush.  Smile

Heads up I usually hand in my assignments after taking the test, I like to immediately take my test after studying for the quizzes so the material is fresh,  they say you need to hand in the assignments first but that's really false the order doesn't matter. Or at least they've never penalized me for it

Small update, I finished the Computer Arcitechture quizzes and took the final. I felt it was pretty hard final, i studied a decent amount (relative to how much I usaully study) and I still didn't do great. The questions really did not seem to match up with the quizzes or the practice tests. But I am now working on the Logism project and I should be able to pass pretty easily. Working on the Data Structures Project as well. Still aiming to complete those two in the next couple of weeks before focusing on the capstone. Plenty of time between now and august 1st to finish calculus and either linear alegbra or TESU software engineering. But I don't want to pay another month of study.com

So it’s not required to submit the project before signing up for final like the syllabus says?if not I will take some finals.

The final won't officially be graded until you submit the papers/projects. But they don't prevent you from taking the final first and submitting the papers/projects later.
