TESU BSBA in Operations Management - Degree Plan Help Request
#1
Hi, all
first-time poster. I love this forum.

I was wondering if I could get some help nailing down a plan for this program specifically.
Here is a link

First:
I currently work 1st 2nd and 3rd shift on an unpredictable on-call swing schedule. My town is also about an hour away from the nearest CLEP testing sites. This schedule has forced me to stick to Straighterline, ALEKS, and Study.com for my exams because of the online proctoring and being able to schedule the tests and take them within a few hours of completing the course material...

If I get my BSBA, I'll qualify for a Mon-Fri job with the plant and a $6/hr raise and a consistent schedule according to HR(we'll see), so I want to get this done ASAP. Smile

I started working towards my degree in January, and this is what I've completed so far.

English Comp I - Straighterline
English Comp II - Straighterline
US HIST I - Straighterline
Accounting I - Straighterline
Technical Writing - Study.com(Using that scholarship/grant thing I found here I forget the name of it at the moment.)
Personal Finance- Study.com
Beginning Algebra - ALEKS
College Algebra - ALEKS
Intermediate Algebra- ALEKS
Business Statistics-ALEKS
Ethics and the CPCU Code of Professional Conduct - American Institute for Chartered Property Underwriters

I've been able to locate course equivalencies for most of the lower-level courses. However, some of the Area of study electives are giving me trouble... I think I have two more free exams with study.com before the scholarship runs out.

I was wondering if one of the more experienced students out there could help me track down the most efficient (affordable/speedy) way towards graduation while having to be entirely dependent on online-proctoring. Or at least let me know if I'm going in the right direction Smile

Thank you!

In my opinion, if speed is your main focus, I would lean towards the BSBA in General Management at TESU. The Operation's MGT degree requires 2 or 3 (maybe more?) courses that you can't test out of...which equals more time it takes to finish your degree.

Another thing I would do is apply to TESU to get locked into the current catalog. TESU changes things from time to time and locking yourself into the current catalog will ensure you don't take courses that will not transfer later...this is what I'm dealing with now.

I would recommend Saylor BUS204: Business Statistics transfers into TESU as OPM-351. Cheap upper level credit that can be used in your AOS and does not duplicate your aleks stats course.

If the General Management option isn't exactly what you're looking for either... you can try your hand at Organizational Management/HRM with courses from Study.com and Saylor. Get your Straighterline courses done (more courses faster/month) and start on Study.com... Get your hands on the spreadsheets dfrecore created for BSBA General Management, there are optional courses showing, and also read the degreeforum wiki for more details.

This is totally test-out-able! There are 2 options, with one being more expensive, but also giving you a certification that may or may not be useful to you.

=============================
The CPIM Cert has the following:
APICS annual membership fee (free for students)
And then 5 courses at $190 each
1) Basics of Supply Chain Management (OPM-301)
2) Strategic Management of Resources (OPM-470)
3) Master Planning of Resources (OPM-313)
4) Detailed Scheduling and Planning (OPM-331)
5) Execution & Control of Operations (OPM-332)
-Additional Amount for Self-Study Printed Materials ($140 each course)
-Additional Amount for Exam Simulator (Bundle, $200 all courses)

=============================

Otherwise, you can just do the following:
REQUIRED: Ops Management (OPM-301) TECEP or Study.com
REQUIRED: Total Quality Management (OPM-???) CSU-Global

Plus 4 optional courses, 2 of which must be UL:
Business Stats (OPM-351) Saylor
MIS (CIS-301) DSST/Davar OR BUS303: Strategic Information Technology (CIS-301) Saylor
Project Management (MAN-435) Study.com/Sophia
Logistics & Supply Chain Management (???) Study.com
Project Procurement & Contract Management (???) CSU-Global
Leadership in Ops Management (???) CSU-Global

Either way, you need to get pre-approval before taking anything, as this is one of the degrees that less is known about at TESU, so they can be wonky about what they accept from day-to-day.

In case you were planning on going the CPIM route, the certification is being reconfigured this year. The exams won't be available after this summer, I believe. I'm currently studying for them now. Here is a link: https://www.apics.org/credentials-educat...figuration. The five exams will be condensed to only two and I'm not sure how that will affect the credit awarded or if the new exams will even carry credit.
