Anyone have any experience or know if you can use all upper level statistics classes to satisfy the 18 AOS credit requirement? Same question for using statistics.com courses? Thanks.

I've always been curious about that. Don't forget that Coopersmith has Linear Algebra. It transfers as UL. Not sure whether it's accepted for the math degree.

They have names like "Predictive Analytics" or "Network Analysis" or "Visualization." Many can be used in the BA in CompSci. You would really need to check with TESU to ask about it.

The mathematics electives section of the AOS list Multivariate Analysis, Non-Parametric Statistics and Sampling Theory. Therefore, I'm wondering how far they will allow you to go.
Once you've filled in the required courses, you should be able to pick any type of math courses you want in the electives section, even mostly stats courses. The sticking points will be:
1. Finding enough LL and UL stats courses cheaply. 2. Having TESU transfer them in using different equivalencies. I could easily see TESU being lazy and lumping a bunch of different courses under the same equivalency. You'll have to run your choices by TESU before taking them and might have to challenge some if they claim courses overlap. At least with statistics.com, they are partners and should have equivalencies worked out.

If anyone knows where to get upper level stats courses online, then please let me know. I've located a couple, but am still searching for more. Price is not an issue since it is a smaller part of the degree and part of a plan for grad school. I'll let everyone know what they decide when I submit them for pre-approval.

I was also looking at stats courses to use towards the BA in Math. According to an advisor, courses with an STA-prefix do count towards the Math area of study.
Probability from LSU should transfer in as STA-321: http://reg.outreach.lsu.edu/modules/shop...ID=2669870 There are a few UL statistics/probability courses at APU that transfer as well. I've asked about a few classes on Statistics.com, but they all seem to come in with a DSI- prefix, and don't count towards Math or Computer Science. There might be exceptions though, so ask advising if you see a class that might apply (and report back please). If anyone has more information about Statistics.com equivalencies, please let us know. What other online stats courses have you found that transfer as something other than STA-201?

The mathematics electives section of the AOS lists several courses which usually have an STA prefix (Multivariate Analysis, Non-Parametric Statistics and Sampling Theory). Seems like another case of inconsistency or misinformation from them. I was looking mainly at the APU stats classes. Those are all accepted used at APU for a degree in Math, but they do have a MATH prefix.

What I was told is that the STA- prefix IS accepted for the math area of study while the DSI- prefix is not.

So sorry! In a hurry and tired! Will have to try not to let that happen on exams! Many thanks for your input.
If I find any other sources of stats classes I will post them. I have heard good things about APUS and $800ish is not too bad so I'm not sure we will find anything better. |
