TESU 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16 Catalog - TECEP's meet residency requirements
#1
So I'm working with an advisor at TESU regarding the residency requirements question, just so there are no surprises when I apply for graduation.

And so I looked at the catalog, to make sure that they have that there in writing, and this is what it says:

Page 186 of the 2015/2016 catalog, page 200 of the 2013/14 catalog (the 2014/25 catalog is not on the website that I can find, and that's of course MY catalog):

Per Credit Tuition Plan

The Per Credit Tuition Plan enables students to register and pay for course tuition on a per credit basis directly after they apply and are accepted into a degree program. Students who select the Per Credit Tuition Plan with the intention of graduating from Thomas Edison State University have academic residency requirements of 12 credits for an associate degree and 24 credits for a bachelor’s degree. Residency requirements are met by earning credits via Thomas Edison State University Online (OL), Guided Study (GS) or e-Pack (EP) courses, TECEP exams (TE) or Portfolio Assessment (PA or PF).

So, I'm going to assume that they can't do much to anyone enrolled in the current catalog - but I also want to say that the catalog dates are changing to April 1 instead of July 1, so if you want to lock in a catalog, NOW is your chance!

It's already posted on the website in the old catalogs. New students under the catalogs going forward will not have this option.

There is also this unfortunate nugget:

Content for this Catalog was current as of July 1, 2015. While every effort has been
made to ensure the accuracy of the information contained in this publication, the
University reserves the right to make changes without prior notice. The Catalog
is not a contract, but rather it is a guide for the convenience of our students. The
University reserves the right to change or withdraw areas of study and courses or
eliminate departments or programs, without notice. The University also retains the
discretion to change fees, registration, graduation and other rules affecting the
student body, at any time

This is an interesting turn of events, if you haven't applied yet, you should apply and be enrolled before May 25 to skip the cornerstone. It will be 1 less item to worry about, you can then start sending your courses to them when you are ready.

I think of it this way, you are actually saving money from the Enrolled Options Plan that didn't have residency requirements. Now there are less courses or TECEPS to take at TESU, but at a higher cost. I did a quick calculation and it still is a few hundred cheaper than COSC, and about $1600 cheaper than Excelsior.

The only thing I am worried about are "other" unmentioned requirements such as GPA for courses transferred or amount of credits transferable. We are uncertain of what other changes are in the newest upcoming catalog. I don't mind paying a bit more to have things done easier, hope they make it so.

I applied in Feb2016, and due to a prior application in 2013, the random advisor I spoke with today assured me, I'd be "locked in" to my BALS plan, but also advised that
I will need to do the new 16 credit requirement, and that TECEPs wouldn't count for residency.I registered and paid for a TECEP today, and see the TECEP in my online student services, under Grades>Term 2016>Description May2016>Start Date 5/2/16>End Date 7/24/16. Is that normal? My status is still NJAPP. I am guessing/hoping it may take a day or 2 for it to change. Or will it not change to enrolled status, as I am on the Pay Per Credit plan? Is there a way I can check into online student services to verify I am enrolled?

You enroll in the pay per credit plan 10 days after the semester begins. In the past TECEPS counted as a TESU course, though that seems to be changing or may have already changed. In the past if you registered for a TECEP in the May semester you would enroll 10 days after the May semester began. Not sure what will happen now.

I think it's very likely you won't be enrolled after day 10 of the May term with just a TECEP (you're not going to get enrolled status in March without EO or comprehensive), so you will be required to do the 1 CR cornerstone unless you enroll in an actual TESU course. If you have to take an expensive TESU course in your program with no other cheaper alternatives available, taking it in May will effectively trade the 1 CR cornerstone for 1 CR of your required course which means you will save both time and $500.
