TESC and excess credit rollover question
#1
I have a question regarding TESC and their excess credit rollover policy. I have completed the BSBA core 27 semester hours, and have excess credit from both accounting classes that I took. My Principles of Financial Accounting and Principles of Managerial Accounting courses were taken at a B&M school and were 5 semester hours each. This puts me at 31 credits in the business core, with 4 in excess from my accounting courses. I am also in need of credits in both Gen Ed Electives & Business Electives area. This is what it currently looks like on my eval:

General Educ Elects (In Progress)
SPA-102... Elementary Spanish II.... 3.00 CR SPA-102 *NE
2.. SPA-101... Elementary Spanish I..... 3.00 CR SPA-101 *NE
2.. HIS-113... American History I....... 3.00 CR HIS-113 *NE
2.. MAT-115... Intermediate Algebra..... 3.00 CR MAT-115 *NE
1.. GEOG015 Physl Geography Lab...... 2.00 C GOG-111 *CC *TE
_____________________________________________________________________ 3 credits
_____________________________________________________________________ 3 credits
_____________________________________________________________________ 1 credits

Business Electives (9sh)
Semester Hours Completed: 6.00
Src Course # Title S.H. Grd TESC # Notes
1.. BUS038 Business Computatns...... 3.00 B BUS-161 *CC *TE
2.. BUS-101... Introduction to Business. 3.00 CR BUS-101 *NE

Not shown above in the Gen Ed area is the ALEKS Trig and SL Western Civilization courses that I have finished, but are currently not showing on the eval. So I am really 1 credit shy of completing the Gen Ed area.

Now, what I'd hope TESC would do with the excess accounting credits is use 3 of the 4 to fulfill the Business Electives area. Would they do that?

Also, count (either finance or managerial) Accounting as a 4 SH course, count my computer class as 2 SH course, and move the remaining 1 credit for the computer class over to the Gen Ed area to completed that section. Would they do that also?

My suggestion would look something like this:

General Educ Elects
SPA-101... Elementary Spanish I..... 3.00
HIS-113... American History I....... 3.00
MAT-115... Intermediate Algebra..... 3.00
GEOG015 Physl Geography Lab...... 2.00
Trigonometry ..... 3.00
Western Civilization.... 3.00
Computer Science 1.00 ?????

A. Business Core 27
Financial Accounting 3 SH
Managerial Accounting 4 SH ????
Business Law 3 SH
Computer Science 2 SH ????
Principles of Finance 3 SH
Principles of Management 3 SH
Principles of Marketing 3 SH
Business in Society 3 SH
Strategic Management 3 SH

Business Electives
Business Computatns...... 3.00
Introduction to Business. 3.00
Excess from Accounting ... 3.00 ???

I'm about to ask TESC if this is possible, but wanted to get a heads up from someone that has experience with excess credit rollover.

I guess if they're not able to move the credits like I have suggested, then my other option is to do a 1 credit General Education course. Can someone recommend an inexpensive, and quick course that might fit the bill.

Thanks!

The evaluation doesn't actually mean anything in official terms, it's just there to help you plan. Let your advisor know what you want to do (there's no such thing as "moving" around credits... you either meet the degree requirements or you don't) and you should be fine.

Thanks for your response Yanji.

Just want to make sure I understand you right...

I have already completed the required Gen Ed courses, required Business Core courses, and Free Electives. The only areas I have yet to complete are the Gen Ed electives (1 credit), Business Electives (3 Credits), and Area of Study (3 Credits). However, once I complete the Area of Study I will have 120 semester hours. Do you think I will have met all the requirements at that point?

I had some overage in my Math/Science core they kept them in that area but put a note that there was an overage then they put a note in my Gen ed area saying there was an overage in core area and subtracting that from the requirement there. This is what it looked like. remember this was 5 years ago/

Cool.

My only concern is that my excess credit comes from the accounting courses, which I don't think are general education courses, so those credits may not apply for gen ed elective credits.

Anyways, it looks like I may be okay, thanks.

Your extra credit from the Comp Sci course should be enough to fill the 1 credit of Gen Ed you need and the accounting courses can fill the resulting hole.
