TESC and AP Calculus credits.
#1
Hey guys, I just wanted to see what all people have received credit for completing AP Calculus AB (4) + BC (3). From what I can deduce from TESC's website is that I would only get credit for MAT-231 and 232. Has anyone got credit for more? I'm hoping for at least one more math class worth of credit, ie. College Algebra. In case TESC evaluates my credits before someone answers, this post can at least serve as future reference...

After a quick search of this site it appears that you get six or maybe eight credits of Calc 1 and Calc 2. I wouldn't expect that you'd receive anything else. Although you most likely have the knowledge from Algebra, when they transfer in credit they give you the best possible match and don't award credit for what most schools would call a prereq (like Algebra).

Wait for it to be accepted and then if you want Algebra credit I'd say take the CLEP or use the ALEKS site.

Since you have Stats listed in your signature that leaves the option to earn the following (check with an adviser to double check):
3 cr Intermediate Algebra (ALEKS)
6 cr College Math (CLEP)
3 cr College Algebra or College Algebra w/ Trig (Both ALEKS courses)
3 cr Precalc or Trig (ALEKS) OR Precalc (CLEP)

You basically should be able to get credit for each "level" of math including Intermediate Algebra, College Math, Algebra, and your choice of Precalc or Trig.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

Thanks for the reply. It just seems weird to have to earn credit for a lower level math that I have already shown proficiency in.

The ALEKS website is quite handy if you know the material. You can simply take the test once up front and if you pass you'll get the credits by asking ACE to get them from ALEKS which takes a day or two. At that point you order a transcript from ACE and you're done. If you wish to you can take the other tests while your on the site for no charge (as long as you complete them within a month and don't allow the auto-renewal to take place).

Yeah, I like the ALEKS website. I used it to study for my Stats exam... I got tired trying to get 70%, so after about 17 hours on ALEKS and 63% assessment, I just took the DSST and passed. It just seems backwards to have to earn credit for college algebra/math/trig if I already proved I know up to Calc II... At Coastline, they waived 12 credits of math due to the AP: college algebra, trig, calc I, and calc II. Unfortunately, they didn't give me credit on my transcript for it, just waived it for my degree.
