The entire conversation was forwarded to the instructor...
#1
Sooooooooooo....my last class at COSC started on Monday. I noticed today that there had been no posting by the instructor at all - no sign that she was around...the "announcements" were from years past. Since it was 4 days later I sent my adviser an email asking if she thought I should email the instructor or wait a bit longer. There was nothing due yet...the homework was posted...discussion boards were there...just no responses to introductions or "welcome" announcement like I'm accustomed to. In fact the announcement that was up was from 2011 and said something about being out of town on vacation.

Anyway, I thought my adviser would get back to me but she forwarded my email to someone else that handles these instructor relations and that someone else emailed me back and said she sent her an email asking her to sign in to her class. I asked if she would know who inquired...and she said "no...I just told her a student inquired." LOL, well there's only two in our class so eeenie meenie miney moe...

So a little later she sends me another email stating that a computer glitch made the class not show up on the instructor's side so she was not aware that this class existed for this semester. It wasn't her fault. She logged in promptly and and responded to our introductions and made an announcement/apology about her being late to the party. I thought great...glad I wasn't just overreacting. I mean had I said nothing, she may not have realized she had a class for a very long time. However, when the instructor relations lady emailed this explanation to me she also copied the instructor and as a result...every email I sent back and forth to her was sent to the instructor.

I'm not trying to overreact or anything but I was not happy about that. I thought my emails would be confidential. :ack:
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

You handled much more tactfully than I have in the past. In one situation my instructor went MIA and I ranted on degreeforums before emailing the director of the program. It turned out the instructor was hospitalized and nobody in her chain of command knew of the situation. It got even better when the director emailed me about the post on degreeforums that was posted under my pseudonym.

In any case, I wouldn't worry too much about the complaint. It is understandable that you were frustrated.

LOL, are you suggesting I delete? I honestly wasn't trying to tattle. I just thought it was unusual. I know the instructors they have are of good quality and i wasn't terribly concerned - just curious. But i was downright embarrassed that all my emails asking for anonymity were sent to her.

Nope. Just saying you probably handled it better than I would have.

assume nothing, say and send with caution. It's a small world and I've had more than one situation like this come back to bite me in the arse.....yeah, I feel your pain. I don't think the instructor will retaliate, it seems pretty harmless- and good thing you actually checked...but for next time oh gosh oh golly gee, coat it in sugar because you never know. <smile>

It was sugar coated this time. I was extremely tactful in my email. I still didn't want it forwarded though.
