Hello, my son is currently in high school and wanting to look at different degrees. We are looking at TESC only. I know Liberal studies he could test out the entire degree. If he looks at getting his AAS Environmental safety and Security Technology then what bachelors program is he able to test out, Aleks, SL, FEMA, etc the entire degree? Thanks for your help!

The AAS in ESST would only bring him close to finishing one degree: Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. He still wouldn't come close to completely testing out of that; and, most of his FEMA credits will end up in free electives or not used at all in any other bachelor's program. I guess what I'm trying to say is that getting the AAS in ESST shouldn't affect his choice for a bachelor's program. I only know of four bachelor's programs that can be completely tested out of at TESC: Liberal Studies, Psychology, Social Science, and BSBA in General Management. He would be able to test out of those regardless of which associate's program he completes. It's all a matter of how much he wants to utilize the FEMA credits from his AAS. The BSBA only has room for 6 free elective credits while the others have room for 27. If I were him, I wouldn't worry too much about not reusing the FEMA credits for a bachelor's since they're free and don't require much effort.

This may seem like a very stupid question, but I'm new and not sure what sure what some of the abbreviations mean. By TESC do you mean Thomas Edison State College?

Welcome to the forum!
It is like learning a new language. This thread should help the abbreviations we use:

Thank you sanantone. Now I have another question. I pretty much know which tests he could take for all his general Ed requirements and his free electives, however is there a place to review (showing a breakdown )which test he could take to satisfy the area of study section for all 4 degrees you mentioned earlier? Just want him to look at all four degrees after looking at which tests/SL he could take to satisfy his entire degree. Thanks again.
