TESC Journalism Roadmap
#1
Hello all,

I just got my credits review back toward a BA in Journalism. I've tried to jot down a roadmap of the tests and courses I should take to complete my degree with the less out of pocket expenses but I'm not familiar with the number of CLEP, DANTES, DSST, and FEMA tests that currently exist.

Could any of you with more knowledge on this lend me a hand? I'm very fluent in spanish -being my first language- so I'd like to test out or if necessary take as many courses in Spanish's subjects as possible.

Many thanks before hand.

Here is the link for TESC. It shows all the CLEP, DSST, TECEP, & other exams they give credit for.

This should help you.

From a loyal degree seeker,

Marshall

P.S: Since your good at Spanish, I suggest you take the Spanish language CLEP. You'll receive 12 credits from TESC if you score at least a 63. You'll receive only 6 credits for a score between 50 and 62.

Here is how I would start:

C: Social Sciences (Not Started)
> Complete 12 semester hours in the Social Sciences,
> including at least two subject areas.
CLEP US History 1 - 3 credits
CLEP US History 2 - 3 credits
CLEP American Government OR DSST Civil War - 3 credits
CLEP Sociology - 3 credits

These 4 exams have a reputation of being fairly easy to pass (with adequate study). I think they all have IC cards and good feedback.

If you get into the history groove try for CLEP Western Civ 1 & 2. That's 18 credits just there. After you pass those go for CLEP Social Sciences and History for 6. Those 24 credits get you section C complete and part way to gen eds completed.

Just my 2 cents.
BTW, I love history. Wink

Passed:

American Gov, US History 1, US History 2, Computing, Info Systems, Humanities, Sociology, Art, Western Civ I, Western Civ II, Social Sciences and History, Civil War, Business, Vietnam, A&I Lit, Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice, American Lit, English Lit, Astronomy, Supervision, 1 FEMA, Total -79

Thanks a bunch for your replies. I've been living in the US for the last ten years and I've found the higher education system a little puzzling.

This last month I've been preparing to take CLEP Humanities. According to TESC transcript review I already fulfilled the Humanities requirement. I don't want to flush down the time I spent preparing for this test. If I still take it would it count towards general ED electives?

and one more silly thing... what does it mean "Including at least two subject areas"?

Thanks again for your help!

Yes, the humanities exam will count towards a general ed elective.

Two subject areas means from two different areas. For example Humanities and Sociology.

Thanks bricabrac, I'm glad I didn't waste all the time preparing for the Humanities test. The subject area is so broad that I thought I wasn't going to be ready ever; and once I started reading Shakespeare I couldn't put him down, fragments weren't enough, I craved for his entire canon!

Hahaha that's funny [: But you could still take it for your gen ed electives!

Hey Bunbu, I just saw this thread and I thought I would add that UMass Amherst has online classes and they have alot of them in Journalism.

Course Results - UMassOnline

I was not sure if you need any more Journalism classes to complete your degree. I also second Marshalls suggestion to take the Clep Spanish exam. 12 very easy credits for you. Also have you looked into FEMA courses to fill in your free electives.

Good Luck with your degree.

Wow Allison thanks a million for that link.

I already followed Marshall's recommendation and next friday I'll be taking Spanish CLEP. Currently I'm cramming whatever's left for humanities and beginning to prepare for US History I. My goal is to complete all my general EDs in 6-8 months -I'm sure I could finish it in less time but we just adopted a gorgeous baby girl and I don't want to rob her a single minute.

Thanks again for that terrific link!!
