Meh. I'm doing fine with the course, I need to hand in my final paper this week and I'm pretty much guaranteed to pass. It just bothers me that you are required to take a thesis-prep course to get your BA, even if you have no intentions of attending grad school.

Yeah, I hear you Ironheadjack. Back when I started at EC, they didn't make the people in the RN course do this paper on nursing. I just barely squeaked out of that annoying extra component. Now for my BSN, looks like I again missed having to take an extra course. We have to write SO MANY papers for the BSN program and 2 of our required courses are all about research. It's like the new way of the world is to see how convincing you can beâ¦either that or make all the PhD's get hits on their research to make them feel betterâ¦I don't know. All I know is that this having to do a Capstone thing is fairly new (last 5 years or so it seems like everyone either requires it or is working toward requiring it).
Let me tell you a little secret about the BSN. More than half the credits I am taking have nothing as in ZERO to do with nursing. Even in the nursing section which focuses on my major. I already knew about 50% of what was required. I think only about 20% (so far) is applicable to me being a better nurse. Is everyone exactly like me? Noâ¦but some are even more experienced and way stronger nurses, particularly those with a different specialty than I have. But the BSN program at most colleges only focuses on 2 main majors that you need extra education inâ¦Nursing Informatics (Nurses that work on computer systems in hospitals) and Nursing Administration, and okay, maybe a 3rd in Nursing Educationâ¦which I will tell you about as I make it through the program. My point is, a 2 year RN with loads of experience is just as qualified, if not moreso than a 4 year BSN with no experience. In other words my grandfather who was brilliant and an MIT level math wiz was right. The BS degree is all about how much BS you can put up with. Some parts of it you can use and the other 50% or more is just stuff you have to show that you learned itâ¦it's sort of BS. I agree being well rounded is important, but is the fact that I know all the presidents going to affect a person having a heart attach that was induced because of kidney failure? No.
So it's just a matter of getting through the BS. I know you probably already know thatâ¦but when you are as close as we both are and you are giving up every weekend and moment of free time it gets annoying to have to work in papers. So I want you to know I hear youâ¦you have a good pointâ¦the whole thing is really pretty annoying and bogusâ¦but it's BS for the BS (or BA in your case). We are sooooo close! Just a little longer and we can add our name to the "I'm finished" list!
Can't wait to read that post from you I have really enjoyed reading all your posts up to this point⦠that last post is just going to be the cherry on top ;D
We are on our WAY!!!

I just want to thank everyone for their encouraging words throughout this course.
I just got my final grades I received an 88 on my final paper, and a course grade of 87% or a "B". I am beyond excited to finally be done.
If there wasn't 4 feet of snow and raining, I'd be doing cartwheels right now. :hurray:
Special thanks to Westerner, without your capstone paper as an example I would have been completely lost.

I know the feeling, Ironheadjack! Congrats on finishing the degree! And I know what you mean about the cartwheels - I would have done some if it wasn't Christmas. Fist pumps and celebratory champagne is how I celebrated.
I understand the frustration with why they require the capstone for the B.A. graduation. But aren't you even a little proud of the finished paper, and plan on showing it off in job interviews or to friends?

Hey Ironheadjack,
I have Dr. Michelle Herrera for my course starting Mar 3rd. It is also a Guided Study. What was it like having her as your mentor?

Question about the Capstone, which I'm beginning soon. I'm assuming the same texts required regardless of what direction you're going with the topic? Do any of you have used textbooks you'd like to sell to me?
CLEP's and DSST's passed: Fund. of Counseling, Tech Writing, Here's to your Health, Intro to Computers, Analyzing and Interpreting Lit, Human Growth and Devel, Intro to Soc., Crim Just, Law Enforcement, Env. and Humanity, Astronomy.
Completed 2 PLA's through LearningCounts.org.
Completed Capstone at TESC.
